At the Gunung Padang site, two ascent options lead to a prehistoric megalithic site: steep original stone steps and a less steep concrete staircase. Choosing a route already adds a distinctive touch to your visit. As access conditions can change, it’s worth checking the current ascent options in advance.
Gardens amid mountain scenery and blooms
Kebun Raya Cibodas lies at an elevation of 1,275 meters above sea level, with Mount Gede Pangrango providing an impressive backdrop. The garden is also home to Taman Sakura, where cherry trees bloom twice a year. Bloom times can vary, so don’t plan a visit to see the cherry blossoms around a fixed, unchanging date.
Taman Bunga Nusantara offers a different garden perspective. At Museum Kehidupan, visitors can follow the life cycle of plants: from germination through root formation, growth and flowering to the replacement of plants. Various fish live at Swan Lake, along with black swans (Cygnus atratus) from Australia and white swans (Cygnus olor) from Europe. This means the same garden highlights both plant development and different animal species.
Waterfalls and trails
Air Terjun Cibeureum is accessible via an easy trekking trail. As trail conditions can change, check the current situation before your visit. Curug Cikondang is a broad, tall waterfall amid tea plantations. Its cliffs are used for waterfall rappelling—another feature of this landscape, alongside the interplay of the waterfall and cultivated land.
Curug Citambur has a campsite overlooking the waterfall. If camping is important to your overnight plans, check availability in advance. The site thus offers the possibility of spending the night outdoors with a view of the waterfall, without implying anything about other accommodation options.
Boat rides and meals by the water
At Jangari, traditional wooden boats travel across the waters of the Cirata Reservoir to various points of interest in its center. A ride offers a view of the reservoir from the water. As boat services can change, check in advance whether rides are operating during your visit.
Cuisine is also part of the Jangari experience: warm Nasi Liwet with freshly grilled fish is served directly on a raft (Keramba) or in floating restaurants. A meal by the water is distinct from a boat ride, even though both experiences help define the same place. Specific providers and dishes may vary.
At Kampung Budaya Pandan Wangi, visitors learn about the cultivation and post-harvest process for Pandanwangi rice. The rice is known for its pandan aroma and sticky texture. Amid the rice fields, you can also enjoy authentic Nasi Pandanwangi with Sundanese side dishes. Here, visitors can experience the rice both as an agricultural product in the making and as part of a regional meal.
More water-based experiences and culture
Little Venice is a replica of Venice, with artificial canals and European-style buildings. Water activities include gondola, dragon boat and pedal boat rides. The attraction therefore combines a European-inspired setting with several different types of boats; it is a replica, not historic Venice.
Cikundul offers a religious perspective. Pilgrims visit the revered tomb of Cianjur’s founder, located on a hill. Conditions for pilgrim visits can change, so check the current visiting options in advance. Gedung Induk Istana Kepresidenan Cipanas is located along the Puncak tourist route and offers another cultural point of reference within the region.
Cianjur’s attractions range from a prehistoric megalithic site to gardens and waterfalls, as well as rice culture, boating experiences and religious pilgrimages. Which themes you focus on depends on whether you’re more interested in landscapes, culture, plants or local cuisine.
