The Village Hall and the EV-14 cycling stage give Zalaszentlászló two distinct points of interest: architectural heritage and a specific cycling route. The town is home to an architectural work by Imre Makovecz; the 22-kilometre stage runs from Zalaszentgrót via Zalaszentlászló to Hévíz. There is also the Gyógynövények Völgye herb farm, with a farm shop and a seasonal cycling offer. When planning your stay, you can choose between architectural heritage, cycling and other things to explore in the wider Zala destination.

Architectural Heritage at the Village Hall

The Village Hall was built in 1985 to plans by Imre Makovecz and designated a protected monument of national significance. The decree came into force in 2024. The protection covers the architectural and interior design value of the building, as well as Makovecz’s intellectual legacy. If architectural history is part of how you choose a place to stay, this is a clear local highlight: the focus is both on the building’s design and on its architect’s legacy.

A specific cultural event took place in 2025: the municipality and the Zalaszentlászlóért Association hosted the 9th Tavaszköszöntő Népdalkör Találkozó. The event coincided with the 40th anniversary of the Village Hall.

Cycling and Herbs

The EV-14 stage is 22 kilometres long. It runs from Zalaszentgrót via Zalaszentlászló, Zalaköveskút and Nemesbük to Hévíz. On this route, Zalaszentlászló is a stop between the start and finish. Cycling therefore offers a different point of interest from the Village Hall: it places the town on a route, while the protected building provides a cultural landmark.

Another cycling tour starts at the organic Gyógynövények Völgye farm and includes a tour of the farm and a product tasting. It is offered from April to October and must be booked in advance. Confirm the arrangements before your visit. The farm shop opened in 2026 and sells only its own organic and medicinal herb products; you should also check the arrangements for visiting the shop in advance. This gives you a choice between a seasonal tour with a farm visit and tasting, which must be booked ahead, and the farm’s own range of herbal products.

Other Things to Explore in the Wider Zala Destination

The wider Zala destination offers everything from wine country to protected natural areas. The Zalai Borvidék wine region developed on the slopes and plateaus of the Zalai-dombság and on the northwestern slopes of the Keszthelyi-hegység. It comprises two wine-growing districts and 38 settlements. Kis-Balaton, Zala’s largest body of water, is strictly protected and covers 14,745 hectares. It is also the setting for István Fekete’s classic novels Tüskevár and Téli berek. For a spring outing, the Azáleás-völgy in Zalaegerszeg’s Alsóerdő offers its own seasonal highlight.

There is also a regional example to consider when planning your visit: in the wider Zala destination, the Water Buffalo Festival takes place every year in May or June at the Kápolnapuszta Bivalyrezervátum; the date may vary from year to year. During opening hours, visitors can pet tame animals every day. A 1.5-kilometre walking trail with rest areas and viewpoints offers another way to explore the reserve. If you plan to attend the festival or visit the reserve, check the date and opening hours in advance.
