Nagypáli offers several ways to give your stay a theme: playgrounds with distinctive design features, First World War memorial sites, and renewable energy facilities. Rather than treating the destinations as interchangeable sights, you can focus on the questions that interest you most: How is a play area designed? What markers preserve local memories of the war? And how are energy technologies presented? These themes can help you choose your visiting days and accommodation.

Playgrounds with varied features

In the heart of the Nagypáli residential park, a playground made from natural materials was created in 2006 on an area of 3,700 m². The playground in Nagypáli’s Grund és szabadidőpark has a four-towered castle as its central feature, complemented by tunnels, a serpentine slide and a climbing wall. Other facilities include a plant maze, a table tennis court and a large chessboard. Alongside climbing and play equipment, a maze and board games can therefore be part of a day’s visit. The different features offer concrete points of interest for anyone curious about how play areas are designed.

Renewable energy in the park and ecocentre

The Energiapark was created in 2012 on a 4,000 m² site beside the Közösségi ház, or community centre. It was established to present and promote applied renewable energy technologies. Its central feature is a 4 kW electricity-generating system shaped like a sunflower. It is joined by a hybrid power plant opened in 2017. The combination of technical output and a plant-inspired shape gives the Energiapark a distinctive character.

The Megújuló Energiaforrások Innovációs Ökocentrum offers a thematic introduction to biomass, biogas, solar and wind energy, and energy crops. Events organized there include temporary exhibitions, conferences, lectures and workshops, covering both possible uses and practical implementation. If you are planning a visit, check the current programme and visitor arrangements for your intended date in advance.

Memorial trail and monument

A row of kopjafas and a row of mulberry trees line the memorial trail for Nagypáli’s fallen in the First World War. The trail also features the “Hősök harangja” (“Heroes’ Bell”), made in Sopron, which tolls in memory of the soldiers who died. The Hősi emlékmű (Heroes’ Monument) stands in the village centre. The trail and bell are thus linked to the route, while the monument has its place in the centre. Anyone interested in local remembrance will find here different ways of commemorating the fallen.

Zala as a broader setting

The broader destination of Zala extends beyond Nagypáli. The Zalai Borvidék wine region developed on the slopes and plateaus of the Zalai-dombság hills and on the northwestern slopes of the Keszthelyi-hegység mountains. It encompasses two wine-growing districts and 38 settlements. Another regional landmark is Kis-Balaton: Zala’s largest body of water is under strict protection and covers 14,745 hectares. It is also the setting for István Fekete’s classic novels Tüskevár and Téli berek. Thus, the wider Zala region brings together wine-growing geography, landscape conservation and literature.

Accommodation and visit planning

When looking for a hotel for a trip to Nagypáli, it helps to first decide on your focus: play and recreation, remembrance, or renewable energy. Plan your visiting days around the themes that interest you most, and check current visitor arrangements at the facilities and the ecocentre’s programme in advance.
