Millenniumi Emlékpark is a tourist attraction in Petrivente. At a football event, the Petrivente Virágai singing group delighted participants during the break with a collection of folk songs. Thus, a named place and a specific musical performance feature in different contexts: the park is part of the town’s tourist profile, while the singing was part of that event’s programme. If the park is to be a fixed point in your plans, check current visiting arrangements in advance.

Petrivente and the wider Zala region

Zala is the broader travel destination if you would like to place Petrivente in a wider landscape and cultural context. The Zalai Borvidék wine region developed on the slopes and plateaus of the Zalai-dombság and on the northwestern slopes of the Keszthelyi-hegység. It comprises two wine-growing districts and 38 settlements. Viticulture is therefore a regional landscape theme that extends beyond the perspective of a single town.

Zala’s natural landscapes also offer a variety of highlights. Kis-Balaton is Zala’s largest body of water, strictly protected and covering 14,745 hectares. It is also the setting for István Fekete’s classic novels Tüskevár and Téli berek. Nature and literary connections come together here. Rezi vár offers a different view: its ruins stand at the summit of a 418-metre-high dolomite ridge on Meleg-hegy, overlooking the Zalaszántó Basin. Azáleás-völgy in Zalaegerszeg’s Alsóerdő is a special spring attraction for day-trippers. Lake Hévíz, meanwhile, is the world’s largest biologically active natural thermal lake. The region’s highlights therefore range from protected wetlands and literary settings to viewpoints, spring landscapes and thermal nature.

Routes, events and culture in Zala

At the Kápolnapuszta Bivalyrezervátum, you can explore the grounds along a 1.5-kilometre walking trail with rest areas and viewpoints. Visitors to the reserve may pet the tame animals every day during opening hours. The Water Buffalo Festival is held there every year in May or June; dates may vary from year to year. If you plan to attend, check the event dates for that year before travelling.

A technical highlight awaits you at the Kotsy-vízimalom in Zalaszántó: a 390-centimetre overshot waterwheel mechanism can be seen in operation there. Zalavári Történelmi Emlékpark has a different focus. Millenniumi Emléképület and Szent István kápolna can be visited free of charge during opening hours; check the current opening dates before travelling. For architecture enthusiasts, Festetics kastély in Keszthely is another notable point of comparison: it is considered Hungary’s fourth-largest castle and has 101 rooms.

Other regional offerings appeal to different interests. Gelse Termálvölgy has seven pools, including sports, family and thermal-water experience pools, as well as a children’s pool, and offers wellness services. Therapeutic treatments at Lake Hévíz are available by prior appointment only; appointments can be booked at the therapy reception of the Festetics Bath House. These arrangements differ from those for a walking trail or seasonal festival and are worth including in your plans if you are considering these particular offerings.

Match your accommodation search to your travel interests

Before looking for a holiday apartment, it helps to set a clear priority: do you want Petrivente, with Millenniumi Emlékpark and local events, to be your main focus, or would you also like to include themes from the wider travel destination of Zala? There, landscapes, cultural heritage, walking trails and seasonal events offer different areas of interest. Tailor your search to the scope and themes of your stay. If an offer has opening hours or fixed event dates, check the relevant details before travelling.
