A short walk in Kerkaszentkirály leads from the Természetház to the far end of the fishing lake: the Kövi csík nature trail connects this route with themes of traditional small-scale fishing and the area's animal and plant life. Along the way is a memorial park for local victims of the world war. Nature and local remembrance thus come together on the same described route.
Fishing Lake and Seasonal Features
An island in the fishing lake serves as a venue for village festivals and family events; visiting tourists can also use it. A small fountain bubbles in the middle of the lake from spring to autumn. The two lake features serve different purposes: the island is associated with events and tourist use, while the fountain is a seasonal feature.
The Former Mill Site
A three-storey mill stood right next to the Természetház and was demolished in the 1970s. A leisure park with bridges, a nature trail and rest areas was created from the remaining concrete foundations and ponds at the site. The leisure park thus connects with the history of the mill site: the mill is gone, and its remains and ponds were incorporated into the grounds.
Landmarks and Local History
On Fő utca are a local chapel, a cross erected in front of it, and a statue of Saint Stephen. The Szent Király Történelmi Emlékpark in Kerkaszentkirály was inaugurated in 2022. Alongside the named landmarks on the street, there is also a dedicated historical memorial site with a clearly specified date.
Activities to Plan in Advance
There is an escape room in the basement of the Természetház for groups of three to five people. It is free to visit and available only by prior reservation. The group size provides a concrete framework for planning together; arrange your booking before your visit.
Mura water tours depart from the rafting base established in Kerkaszentkirály. Participation must be arranged in advance. If you would like to plan this activity, check current availability before travelling.
GPS devices can be provided on request for cycling tours starting from Kerkaszentkirály. If you would like to use this option, arrange for the devices in advance.
Zala: A Distinctive Regional Perspective
The Zalai Borvidék wine region in Zala developed on the slopes and plateaus of the Zalai-dombság and on the northwestern slopes of the Keszthelyi-hegység. It comprises two wine-growing districts and 38 settlements. Another regional highlight is the Kápolnapuszta Bivalyrezervátum: a 1.5-kilometre walking trail with rest areas and viewpoints provides access to the reserve. The Water Buffalo Festival takes place there every year in May or June; the exact date can vary from year to year. The wine region and the 1.5-kilometre walking trail represent different scales.
