In the centre of Bakonybél, a former granary houses the Bakonyi Erdők Háza. Its natural history and forestry collections give the building its thematic focus. A diorama depicts the wild animals of the Bakony; paintings by naïve artist Dani Pál portray the former landscape of the Bakonyerdő.

Collections and landscape paintings

The Trófea és kőzetbemutató exhibition in Bakonybél focuses on something different: it displays more than a hundred trophies and furs, as well as a rock exhibition. Thus, depictions of animals and landscapes, as well as trophies and rocks, are among the different nature-related themes of the town.

Folk architecture and monastic history

The Bakonybéli Tájház is located in a group of buildings dating from the mid-19th century, which exemplify the folk architecture of the Bakony. The Hasprai family built the two houses and the so-called torkospajta. In the Tájház, an exhibition explores the creation and history of the Bakonyi indián játék, a game more than 50 years old that is associated with Cseh Tamás. In this way, the history of the buildings and the history of the game stand side by side as distinct themes.

The Szent Mauríciusz Monostor also brings together different periods. The present-day church was consecrated in 1754. The Benedictine monastery in Bakonybél includes a Baroque church and a monastery building from 1754, as well as an arboretum. Within the wider destination of Balaton - North, the monastery’s history goes back to a monastery founded in 1018 by King Stephen I, at the suggestion of the monk Günther, in the area of present-day Bakonybél.

Hiking trails and places nearby

Several marked hiking trails pass through Bakonybél. For a specific route option, consider the Boroszlán tanösvény, located three kilometres from Bakonybél: its seven-kilometre circular hike has a shorter, two-kilometre variant. Compare the route lengths and check the published route details with the park administration before setting out, as they may change.

About one kilometre from Bakonybél, the Szent-kút Chapel (Borostyán-kút) stands at a popular excursion destination. The present-day chapel dates from the late 19th century. The site includes a 14-station Way of the Cross and a Calvary with figures of Christ, Mary and John.

The Pannon Csillagda in Bakonybél offers another perspective with its interactive exhibition on space exploration and astronomy. The wider destination of Balaton - North also includes Hegyestű, a 337-metre-high mountain between Zánka and Monoszló. The inner side of a basalt volcano that was active about eight million years ago is exposed there. At the viewpoint on the western edge of the quarry area, visitors can identify the surrounding hills using a panoramic information board. Hegyestű also has a rock garden featuring characteristic rock types of Transdanubia.
