Discovery Trail and Lakeside Promenade
The “Titkok ösvénye” discovery trail is designed as a self-guided tour with ten stops. Signs and QR codes introduce Balatonakali’s local heritage. Along the lakeshore, a walking path shaded by plane trees also leads to information boards about the town and its surroundings. The boards cover fish of Lake Balaton, other interesting living things, and aquatic plants. The shade comes from preserving existing plane trees and planting new ones.
The themes offer different points of focus: the discovery trail has ten stops covering local heritage, while the lakeside adds information about living things and aquatic plants. This gives you both a self-guided exploration and a walking path with nature-related information boards.
Almond Trees and Wine-Making Traditions
Old almond trees in Balatonakali’s vineyards bear witness to a century-old tradition of local almond cultivation. Many of the trees are at least a hundred years old. Some have twisted trunks and still bear fruit. Their age, shape and continued fruit production are all part of this local landscape and agricultural theme.
Wine-making is also part of the local tradition: Barátcsuha is a grape variety from Balatonakali that is used to make wine. This tradition also includes a wine press cellar on Fenye-hegy. Almond growing and wine-making thus offer two concrete insights into the town’s agricultural character, but do not imply that public tastings or tours are available.
Forrás Park and Its Natural Setting
Forrás Park on Petőfi utca was redeveloped in the 2010s as a recreation, fitness and playground park. Its landscaped areas blend with the original marshy surroundings. At the same time, the undisturbed area around the spring shows the original habitat, with its marsh vegetation. It provides a habitat for protected plants such as the clustered pink and Vitézvirág.
Different park themes come together here: recreation, fitness and play sit alongside the preserved habitat around the spring. The combination of landscaped areas and marshy surroundings is characteristic and helps with orientation; the plants mentioned are part of the area’s protected natural heritage.
Beach Facilities and Seasonal Programs
The lawns at Mandulavirág Beach have been renovated, and facilities for separate waste collection have been expanded. Guests with special needs can use accessible toilets and showers, accessible games, tactile guidance elements and a tactile site model. If these facilities are important for your visit, you can confirm their current condition in advance.
The children’s center and beach library offer programs each year from July 1 to August 20 for children of kindergarten and elementary school age. These include hands-on arts and crafts activities. Parents and accompanying adults can read newspapers and borrow books. Use is free after paying the beach entrance fee. Balatonakali on the Road Cycling Route
The recommended road cycling loop, “Dörgicsei karika,” runs via Zánka, Balatonakali, Balatonudvari, Vászoly, Dörgicse, Mencshely, Óbudavár, Balatoncsicsó and Monoszló, returning to Zánka. Alongside local walking and nature attractions, this offers a road cycling route through several towns as another option for planning your trip.
