Litér combines a 13th-century Reformed church with cultural and leisure attractions such as Közpark and local festivals. This offers a range of ways to plan your trip, from architectural details and commemorative history to cycling or attending an event. The aspects you want to focus on can also help you choose when to visit.

Reformed Church and Commemorative History

Litér’s Reformed church was built in the 13th century in the Early Gothic style. Its south portal is particularly distinctive: it is considered the first Hungarian example of a portal with column figures developed in Chartres. The construction period and portal design offer two specific starting points for exploring the church’s architecture.

The church can be visited year-round by prior arrangement. Be sure to arrange your visit in advance. Bódi Mária Magdolna is also part of the town’s history: she was martyred for Christ in Litér on March 23, 1945. At a commemorative event on April 13, a Mass was celebrated in the courtyard of the Reformed school; afterward, the crowd went to her grave to pray together.

Közpark, Cycling Track and Sports Facility

Közpark has an open-air stage and a spectator area. It also features a nationally unique cycling track illuminated by solar-powered LED lamps. The stage, spectator area and cycling track offer different ways to experience the park, so it is worth keeping your preferred focus in mind when planning your visit.

Another local sports facility is the Műfüves futballpálya in the courtyard of Litéri Református Általános Iskola. The illuminated artificial-turf football pitch measures 20 × 40 metres. Its dimensions and location in the school courtyard make it easy to distinguish from the cycling track in Közpark.

A cycling-route project is also relevant for getting your bearings, but it is a plan: it envisaged links between Litér and Balatonfűzfő, and between Litér and Szentkirályszabadja. A total of 13.7 kilometres was planned. If you want to use this information to plan a specific cycling trip, check the current route beforehand.

Festivals and Farmers’ Market

The Mogyorósi Napok takes place in July and is considered the most important event in Litér’s community life. July is therefore the month to keep in mind for this festival; check the specific event dates before travelling.

The Szent György Napi Birkafőző Verseny is associated with the May Day celebrations. The farmers’ market offers products from local agricultural producers. As market opening hours may change, check them before planning a dedicated visit.

Planning Your Stay and Accommodation

If one of these attractions will shape your stay, first confirm the relevant date or arrange your church visit. You can then compare hotels in Litér for your travel dates.
