Kislőd can be explored through its specific local attractions: the Kislőd–Öreg-hegyi Adventure Trail passes several named stations, while Sobri Jóska Adventure Park brings together various facilities. The Három-forrás Rest Area is another destination in its own right. When planning, it makes a difference whether you want to focus on a walking route, the park’s attractions or a rest area.
The Kislőd–Öreg-hegyi Adventure Trail
The Kislőd–Öreg-hegyi Adventure Trail is 19 kilometres long, easy, and can only be completed on foot. It passes the cultural centre, Vashámor, the adventure park, a nature trail, the Blue Hiking Route and an open-pit mine; the route returns to the village via the adventure park. It thus links several named stops along a single route. Check local conditions before setting out. The distance and the fact that the trail is only accessible on foot help you assess it as a standalone activity.
Sobri Jóska Adventure Park: Getting there and attractions
Sobri Jóska Adventure Park is on the outskirts of Kislőd. It is about a 20-minute walk from Kislőd railway station and can also be reached by local bus. Attractions include, among others, a zip line, a bobsled track, a rope course, a go-kart track, a water obstacle course and a playground. The park’s attractions are therefore quite different from the single route, which can only be completed on foot. Facilities may change: check which attractions are currently operating before your visit.
The Három-forrás Rest Area
A post dated 14 April 2020 describes the Három-forrás Rest Area in Kislőd as a popular destination for residents of the surrounding area, visitors and nature lovers. It adds a rest area to the town’s specific attractions, described here as a destination for different groups of visitors.
More topics in the broader Balaton - North destination
The broader Balaton - North destination offers a range of options, from caves and geology to culture and outdoor activities. Boat trips are available in the Tapolcai-tavasbarlang; there is also a guided exhibition called “Csodálatos karszt” (“Wonderful Karst”). The cave is part of an underground cave system beneath the town, which has so far been explored over a length of 14.6 kilometres. At Hegyestű, a 337-metre-high mountain between Zánka and Monoszló, the inner side of a basalt volcano that was active around eight million years ago has been exposed. A lookout point on the western edge of the quarry site offers orientation to the surrounding hills with the help of a panoramic board; Hegyestű also has a rock garden featuring characteristic rock types of Transdanubia.
Crafts and history are also represented. The Herend Porcelain Museum features a permanent exhibition and changing exhibitions on the history of the manufactory. In workshops at the Minimanufaktúra, visitors can handle porcelain clay and a brush for painting; the visitor centre presents porcelain-making, its techniques and the traditions of applied art. Sümeg Castle is a comparatively well-preserved medieval fortress on a bare hill rising above its surroundings. Extensive renovation work was completed in 2022, and an interactive exhibition opened there in spring 2023. Szent Mauríciusz Monostor dates back to a monastery founded in 1018 by King Stephen I at the urging of the monk Günther, in the area of present-day Bakonybél.
The wider Balaton - North destination also offers a range of options for enjoying the landscape and being active. Ámos-hegyi Pihenőerdő covers 230 hectares and features a nature trail, a lookout tower, a fitness trail and forest playgrounds. The ski run system at the SkiArena Vibe Park in Eplény comprises 16 runs with a total length of 7,984 metres. The Ámos-hegyi lookout point in the park offers views of the landscape of the high Bakony. The regional selection can thus be grouped by themes such as caves, geology, crafts, history or outdoor activities, without attributing these destinations to Kislőd itself.
