In Bátaapáti, it is worth planning two things separately: the visitor center’s special visiting conditions and the town’s cultural and historical highlights. These include a late Baroque Protestant church, an Apponyi family chapel and a Tájház with Swabian traditional costumes and everyday objects.

Visitor Center: Registration and Current Conditions

Advance registration is required to visit the visitor center in Bátaapáti. Your visit must be arranged at least five days in advance. At the same time, visiting opportunities are currently limited due to maintenance, development and renovation work. In addition to a presentation and film screening, the underground crosscut can still be visited. Before making plans, check the operator’s latest visitor information and arrange your visit in good time.

There is no age restriction for the surface exhibition; the underground exhibition is reserved for visitors aged 16 and over. If you plan to visit the center with a group of different ages, take this restriction into account when choosing your program and arranging your visit.

The program also includes a view through a window into a shaft built to transport waste, and information about the blasting method used to construct the repository, presented in a demonstration chamber. As visiting opportunities are currently limited, check when arranging your visit which parts of the program can be included.

Church, Apponyi Chapel and Tájház

The late Baroque Protestant church in Bátaapáti was consecrated in 1789. The chapel south of the Apponyi mansion represents a different period: the Apponyi family had it built in the last third of the 19th century. These dates place the two religious buildings in different eras—the church’s consecration in the 18th century and the chapel’s construction in the late 19th century.

The Tájház in Bátaapáti displays traditional Swabian costumes, furniture and household objects. It offers a glimpse into clothing and everyday culture alongside the architectural history of the church and chapel. If you would like to visit the Tájház, contact them in advance.
