Segesd brings together local history, religious buildings, parkland and equestrian tourism. When planning your trip, you can choose different areas of focus: historic local connections, the ongoing pilgrimage tradition at SzentkĂșt, or an equestrian facility. If you are looking for a holiday apartment, you can first consider which of these themes you would like to shape your stay.

Cultural History and SzentkĂșt

The Árpåd-håzi Szent Margit Museum and Library opened on 20 August 2001 as the closing event of the county celebrations during the Millennium year. The museum, which presents the local history of Segesd, is housed in a 19th-century estate mill building protected as a historic monument. Here, a museum with a clearly established opening date is housed in a historic type of building.

The Catholic church in Segesd is also considered a sight; it was built in 1777. Another religious landmark is the chapel at SzentkĂșt, dedicated to the Virgin Mary. It was consecrated in 1744. Since the chapel was built, pilgrimages have continued to take place, primarily at SzentkĂșt. The history of the buildings and an ongoing religious tradition thus stand alongside one another as distinct aspects.

The dates differ significantly: 1744 marks the consecration of the chapel, 1777 the construction of the church, and 2001 the opening of the museum. This distinction helps place Segesd’s historical landmarks in context without treating the events as interchangeable.

Park and Regional Remembrance

Somogy Kincse Park in Segesd lies among plane trees, pines, willows and yews. A dogwood is planted in the park every year. A copper plaque attached to a stone commemorates notable people from Somogy County. The tree-filled landscape, recurring planting and remembrance of people from the county give the park several interconnected themes.

Traditional Production in AlsĂł-Segesd

The Bor- és Pålinkahåz in Alsó-Segesd is dedicated to traditional equipment used in fruit growing and in wine and pålinka production. This equipment is kept and displayed there. The themes span everything from cultivation to the production of wine and pålinka, forming a distinct cultural-historical focus alongside the museum, church and chapel.

Equestrian Tourism and Horse Keeping

EKO-TUR Kft. operates a 30-hectare equestrian tourism facility in Segesd. It includes a stable with eight stalls and six broken-in horses. Individual visitors and groups are welcome all year round. The stable also offers accommodation and boarding for privately owned horses and horses brought by guests. If you include this focus in your trip planning, check the current conditions before travelling.

Balaton South as a Regional Context

In the wider travel destination of Balaton South, the Zselici Landscape Protection Area provides a distinct regional focus. Due to its low light pollution, the protected area received the title of International Dark Sky Park in 2009. The Zselici Csillagpark was established in the heart of the area. The regional picture thus includes this protected area and its Dark Sky Park designation, alongside Segesd’s cultural and park attractions.
