Fonyódliget can be explored through several distinct highlights: a beach more than one kilometre long, a second, considerably shorter bathing area, a cycling route connection, and cultural and nature topics. If you are choosing a destination for a few days, these differences can help you decide what you would like to focus your stay on. At the beach, the length and facilities listed for Árpádpart matter; the chapel’s history, the Berek Világa Visitor Centre and the route of the Balatoni Bringakör also offer their own points of interest.
Beaches: Length, Facilities and Season
Árpád-parti Beach stretches for over a kilometre in the Fonyódliget district. At Árpádpart Beach, guests have access to lockers, a rental service, a large slide, a badminton court and playgrounds. This gives you two clear considerations when choosing: the extent of the beach and the facilities listed. Fürdő utcai free beach is approximately 70 metres long; compared with the more than one-kilometre-long Árpádpart, it is a considerably smaller stretch of beach.
The official list of bathing areas in Somogy classified Fürdő utcai free beach as a free beach in 2024 and set the bathing season from 15 June to 31 August. The entry refers to 2024; please check the current dates for a later visit. An excellent annual bathing water quality rating for Árpádpart Beach was recorded on 10 August 2026. If water quality is important to your plans, check current information before swimming.
Railway Station and Cycling Route
Arrival and the cycling route offer two different points of reference. A local guide sign from 2025 gives the distance from Fonyódliget railway station to the northeastern end of Árpád-parti Beach as 150 metres. A cycling and beach guide from 2025 says that the Balatoni Bringakör runs through Árpád-parti Beach. The distance points to one end of the beach from the station, while the route information indicates where the cycling route runs. If you are planning your stay around arrival or cycling, you can weigh these two details separately.
Chapel History and Berek
The chapel in Fonyódliget also gives the area a clearly dated cultural connection. Its sanctuary was built in 1936 and consecrated by parish priest Ify Lajos on 4 July 1937; the chapel was extended in 1993. The Berek Világa Visitor Centre opened in early June 2022 in Fonyódliget, close to the Ordacsehi Berek. This gives you two distinct themes to consider: the chapel’s architectural history and the visitor centre’s proximity to the Ordacsehi Berek.
The broader South Balaton destination adds a distinct regional nature connection: the Zselici Landscape Protection Area received the title International Dark Sky Park in 2009 because of its low light pollution; Zselici Csillagpark was established in the heart of the protected area. This connection draws attention to a protected area and the park established there—a different geographical scale from Fonyódliget’s specific beach and cultural sites.
