Délegyháza combines a distinctive lake landscape with a striking cultural building and a municipal area characterised by farmsteads. For planning purposes, the key is to distinguish between the twelve gravel pit lakes, Lakes I to III, and the rules that apply along individual stretches of shore. This will help you tailor your stay to swimming and water sports, fishing, culture, or hiking and horse riding, while taking the different conditions at the lakes into account.
Lake landscape and water sports
The municipal area is home to twelve gravel pit lakes with a total water surface of around 300 hectares. The lakes are suitable for swimming, fishing and various water sports. Specific information is available for Délegyháza Lakes I to III: together, they cover 80 hectares. Their beds are uneven, alternating between gravelly and muddy areas, and their depth ranges from 1 to 5 m. The surface area figures refer to different areas: around 300 hectares for all twelve lakes combined, and 80 hectares for Lakes I to III. The information on lakebed and depth also applies to these three lakes, not generally to all the bodies of water. This makes it possible to distinguish the general leisure opportunities at the lakes from the more specific information about Lakes I to III.
Fishing and rules along the shores
The Délegyháza Angling Sports Association manages fishing on Lakes I, II and III. If you would like to fish there, check the current permits. There are also rules on motor vehicles along two stretches of shore: in the lakeside area of Szent-István Park on Délegyháza Lake I, entry and parking are prohibited; the same applies at Sirály Beach on Délegyháza Lake II. The only exception in each case is the brief period arriving anglers need to launch and retrieve their boats. In addition, fishing is not permitted at Sirály Beach from 1 May to 30 September. The vehicle ban and the time restriction on fishing apply to different activities. Observe both rules and check the current local fishing regulations before travelling.
Cultural history and activities on land
Piróth Castle now houses the Kölcsey Cultural Centre. Of Délegyháza’s former castles and manor houses, it is the only surviving building. The Cultural Centre is also the oldest and most richly decorated building in the municipality. The building thus reflects both the area’s former history of castles and manor houses and its present-day cultural use.
The municipal area also includes a vast area characterised by farmsteads, where visitors can hike and ride horses. This offers a different focus from water-based activities and an alternative to a stay centred mainly on the lakes. When planning your time here, you can weigh up activities on the water against exploring the farmstead area.
Délegyháza is also home to a naturist beach with a campsite, which was built as the first of its kind in Hungary and is still in operation. Check the current visitor rules before travelling. Délegyháza is accessible by car via the M0 motorway and main road 51. If you are looking for a holiday rental in Délegyháza, you can first consider whether your stay will focus mainly on the lakes, local history or the area characterised by farmsteads.
