A stay in Dunakeszi can be shaped around several specific interests: seasonal water activities, cycling, sports facilities and historic sites. When choosing a destination, it is worth distinguishing between the activities on offer: some are tied to the beach season, while Katonadomb Leisure Park is explicitly open for use all year round.
Water and Cycling
At Dunakeszi Duna Szabadstrand, you can rent a SUP, a four-person canoe, a one-person kayak and a two-person kayak. Beach services are seasonal; which boats are available may vary depending on the time of year. If a particular watercraft is important to your plans, check its availability for your travel dates.
The EuroVelo 6 runs immediately east of the beach. Near Vác, it connects to the cycling route towards the Danube Bend. This makes it possible to include Dunakeszi in a cycling itinerary linked to the Danube Bend. Check the current route before setting off.
Sports and Time Outdoors
Katonadomb Leisure Park is free for everyone to use year-round. It has basketball and teqball courts, as well as table tennis tables. The facilities also include a playground and a fitness park designed for adults. Together, they offer various ways to get active without being limited to a particular season.
In the middle of the promenade at Dunakeszi Duna Szabadstrand is a playground fully shaded by trees. This is a specific feature of this beach area. When planning your travel dates, also consider Borsétány: this three-day festival takes place every year in early June. The programme includes wine tastings, outdoor film screenings and concerts. Check the dates and programme for the relevant year before your trip.
Historic Sites and Visiting Conditions
The ruins of Alag’s medieval village church are in Alagimajor, an area of Dunakeszi. The foundations and some of the sanctuary’s side walls remain. These remnants offer a tangible connection to the former village at this site.
Dunakeszi Harbour Fort was built during the reign of Emperor Valentinian in the 370s. Together with the fort on the Horány side, it formed a pair. There are no fixed opening hours for the exhibition in the Late Roman harbour fort; arrange your visit by phone.
Getting There and Finding Your Way
Interactive displays along the Madárlátta Nature Trail introduce the area’s animal and plant life. Part of the trail was renovated in 2022, when it was given its name. This links nature themes with a specific timeframe for the renovation, without making any claim about its current condition.
If you are travelling by train to Dunakeszi Duna Szabadstrand, it is recommended that you get off at Dunakeszi-Gyártelep stop. Check current train connections before your trip. The different timeframes are relevant when choosing your travel dates: boat rentals are seasonal, Borsétány takes place every year in early June, and Katonadomb is free to use year-round.
