Dánszentmiklós has several very different points of historical and scenic interest: the Roman Catholic Church of Szent Mikós with its stained-glass windows, old linden trees and boundary stones, and a summer concert series at four castles. When planning your trip, the first thing to consider is what you want to focus on: should a concert date determine your stay, or are you mainly interested in local history and the trees?
Church and Local History
The Roman Catholic Church of Szent Mikós in Dánszentmiklós was built in 1958–1959 through a community effort. Its stained-glass windows were made later: in 1969, during the tenure of parish priest Valentin Tibor, they were created with donations from the faithful. Thus, the church and its windows each reflect a different form of community contribution.
The design of the windows also follows a clear arrangement: female saints are depicted on the east side, and male saints on the west side. At the same time, the windows commemorate the members of the congregation who donated them. Their orientation and the remembrance of their donors therefore give the windows two different layers of meaning.
Another point of cultural and historical interest is the memorial room dedicated to Dr. Plósz Béla and his life and work. It was completed in 2013, the year of his 150th birthday. Boundary stones provide a different, inscription-based point of interest: several bearing the inscription “1750” still stand on the outskirts of Dánszentmiklós. There is also a large boundary stone at the corner of Ady Endre utca, by the Művelődési és Sportház.
Old Trees and Places to Rest
Two groups of trees can be distinguished by their features if you are interested in the landscape. The grounds of Muzsik Castle are home to old linden trees, plane trees, maples and oaks. By contrast, the old Dános linden trees in Dánszentmiklós form a group of eight large-leaved lime trees that have been growing there for more than a hundred years. The variety of species stands out among the castle trees, while the number, species and age of the Dános linden trees are their defining details.
The Micsky/Mitsky linden trees also offer walkers a convenient place to rest: two benches invite visitors to take a break. The tree sites described therefore differ not only in the species and ages mentioned, but also in this practical detail about seating.
Summer Castle Concerts
The “Nyári esték kastélykoncertek” series offers the residents of Dánszentmiklós and their guests special musical experiences on four summer dates. The venues are Wekerle Castle, Plósz Castle, Ugody Castle and Muzsik Castle. The series is therefore a seasonal cultural offering to consider when planning your trip. If you would like to include the concerts in your stay, check the dates for your preferred travel period.
When looking for a hotel in Dánszentmiklós, a concert date could be one factor in choosing when to travel. The town’s history, boundary stones and trees offer other points of interest.
