Szuha can be assessed as a travel destination through a range of specific themes: ecotourism and hiking sit alongside a protected spring and distinctive buildings. Not all nature-related sites are within the built-up area, and the architectural history reflects different historical periods. When planning, you can consider which of these themes you would like to shape your stay.

Nature, Hiking and Ecotourism

A North Mátra Ecotourism Center was established in Szuha. The building was given the role of an ecotourism reception building and visitor center, with interactive features and games for day-trippers and groups. Active play and recreation features were also added. A hiking station and event space were also established in the Szuha–Mátraalmás area. Together, these facilities offer different points of interest: interpretation and playful activities at the center, and hiking and events in the area mentioned.

Another nature-related site is the protected Bükkfa Spring, outside Szuha’s built-up area on the road toward Parádsasvár. Water emerges between the roots of an old beech tree. The spring is surrounded by a protected woodland covering 14 hectares. Its location outside the built-up area makes this landscape distinct from the buildings in the village. If you are planning to visit the center or the spring, check the current access conditions in advance.

Architectural History in the Village

The Kisboldogasszony Church dates back to a 15th-century Gothic church and was remodeled in the Baroque style in 1768. Its architectural history thus combines a medieval origin with a specific later alteration. This span of time is particularly interesting for understanding the building: the church is not only an example of Baroque architecture, but also preserves its older Gothic origins.

The Bell Tower presents a different architectural accent. It is squat and square, has one storey, and was built in the Baroque style in the 18th century. Whereas the church is defined by the sequence of its Gothic origins and Baroque remodeling, the tower can be described primarily by its compact form and construction date. Together, the two buildings add different facets of local history to the picture of Szuha.

More Themes in the Broader Destination of Neuburg

The broader destination of Neuburg offers further cultural and landscape themes. The old village of Hollókő is a Palóc settlement in Nógrád County in northern Hungary and a deliberately preserved, living example of rural life before the 20th-century agricultural revolution. There, the focus is on a continuing rural way of life, while Szuha offers specific architectural history in the village through its church and bell tower.

The Pásztó Museum also offers its own historical focus. Its permanent and temporary exhibitions are housed in a Baroque Cistercian monastery building that was rebuilt in 1717–1718. An open-air exhibition presents a medieval glassworks and blacksmith’s workshop; together, they are considered a unique industrial heritage site in Hungary. The themes range from monastic history and museum exhibitions to medieval craft production.

Those interested in geology will find further distinct themes in the broader destination of Neuburg. The Boszorkány-kő educational trail is located in the Karancs-Medves Landscape Protection Area, established in 1989 and covering 6,928.6 hectares. It illustrates basalt volcanism that took place 2.4 to 5.2 million years ago and shows rocks from a small fissure volcano, including sediment inclusions torn from the depths, curved lava plates, and basalt columns formed by weathering. The Ipolytarnóc Fossils Nature Reserve, in turn, preserves a globally renowned fossil site that was placed under protection in 1944. Its evidence of a primeval world destroyed by a volcanic catastrophe 17 million years ago includes shark teeth, petrified trees, leaf impressions, and fossilized animal tracks.
