Kisbér combines a memorial site and local history with a miniature park on the lakeshore. When planning your visit, it is worth distinguishing the specific visiting hours of the Büszkeségpont from the dated information about the local museum. The wider Komorn-Gran destination offers additional cultural and landscape themes.
Memorial Site, Local History and Miniature Park in Kisbér
The Büszkeségpont 1956 – Emlékmúzeum és Kiállítás is free to visit during the Kiskastély’s opening hours. It is open Tuesday to Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check the opening hours again before your trip.
The exhibition at the Hegedűs Pál Helytörténeti Múzeum offers a distinct perspective on local history: it is housed in the former Neoclassical building of the Ménesparancsnokság. The Kisbéri Helytörténeti Múzeum opened on April 18, 2025.
The Mini-Magyarország miniature park is located on the shore of Lake Kisbér. These different themes sit side by side: remembrance, local history in a Neoclassical building, and miniatures by the lake. Which of these highlights shapes your trip to Kisbér depends on whether you are more interested in memorial culture, historic architecture or the park.
More to Explore in the Wider Komorn-Gran Destination
In the wider Komorn-Gran destination, the Gerecsei Tájvédelmi Körzet adds a distinct landscape and geology focus. The protected area is of national significance, is individually designated, and covers 8,676 hectares in Komárom-Esztergom. Triassic limestone predominates in the Gerecse, alongside particularly fossil-rich Jurassic limestone. This means that, alongside cultural sites, the region also offers landscapes and geological features to explore.
Another highlight is the Majki Kamalduli Remeteség, a Baroque monument complex with seventeen cell houses, a church tower and a monastery. An exhibition explores the general and Hungarian history of the Camaldolese Order. The complex is open Tuesday to Sunday: from 1 April to 31 October, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and from 1 November to 31 March, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Check the seasonal opening hours before your visit.
At the Bábolna Nemzeti Ménesbirtok, a guided tour begins with an exhibition on the history of the stud farm and continues in the Ménesudvar. Another option is a carriage ride to the nearby arboretum in one of two carriages drawn by Shagya Arabian mares. Advance booking is required. Advance booking is also required for the “Fogat bemutató, ménfelvezetés” program, which presents four-, five- and two-horse teams that you can try out yourself.
Other cultural attractions offer distinct perspectives on history. The Brigetio Öröksége Látogatóközpont houses an interactive permanent archaeological exhibition featuring finds from the Brigetio excavations. The Monostori Erőd is a military monument within the Komárom fortification system; exhibitions and staged scenes bring to life the eras of the Monarchy, the world wars and the Soviet occupation. The fortification system, located in the territory of both Komároms, is on UNESCO’s Tentative List of World Heritage Sites.
There are also different ways to explore the region: the towns of Tata, Vértesszőlős and Tatabánya can be easily and safely connected by bicycle along the Által-ér. The Duna-Gerecse tourism area also offers 19 virtual walks for download in Hungarian, German, English and Slovak; they work offline. Check whether the walks are available before your trip.
