The Alexandriai Szent Katalin-templom and the Csolnoki löszgyepek area represent two distinct themes of a trip to Dág: architectural history and nature. At the church, a Neoclassical building dating from 1826 stands alongside some older Baroque furnishings. In the area between Csolnok and Dág, grassland, scrub, oak woodland, abandoned vineyards and sand steppes form a mosaic. This makes it possible to consider cultural and natural highlights separately when planning your trip.

A church building with older furnishings

The present-day Alexandriai Szent Katalin-templom in Dág was built in 1826 by the Esztergomi káptalan. The Neoclassical building is a protected monument and covers an area of 193 m². Neoclassical architecture draws on ancient design models; at this church, it can be compared with an older historical layer. Some of the Baroque furnishings date from the first half of the 18th century. The building and its furnishings therefore point to two different dates: the church’s construction in 1826 and the earlier pieces it houses.

Kiscsévpuszta and its history

Kiscsévpuszta lies on the outskirts of Dág, in a picturesque natural setting on Gete and near Esztergom. Weddings and events are held there. If you are planning to use Kiscsévpuszta for a specific occasion, check the current offering in advance.

The first official records of the area that is now Kiscsévpuszta date from 1262. The manor house at Kiscsévpuszta is built in the Neoclassical style. The early date refers to the area, while the style description refers to the manor house; historical records and architecture thus emerge as distinct topics.

Landscape between Csolnok and Dág

The Csolnoki löszgyepek area lies between Csolnok and Dág. A mosaic of loess grasslands, rocky grasslands and scrub, oak woodland, abandoned vineyards and sand steppes makes up the area. These different habitats give the area a varied landscape and offer nature enthusiasts specific points of interest when exploring the surroundings.

The species list may be updated by the responsible authority; species of Community importance include, for example, the European ground squirrel (Spermophilus citellus), the stag beetle (Lucanus cervus), the sand iris (Iris humilis ssp. arenaria), the great pasque flower (Pulsatilla grandis) and the Russian bugloss (Echium russicum).

A regional perspective on Komorn-Gran

Within the wider destination of Komorn-Gran, the Gerecsei Tájvédelmi Körzet is a nationally significant, individually designated landscape protection area in Komárom-Esztergom, covering 8,676 hectares. In the Gerecse, alongside the predominant Triassic limestone, there is also Jurassic limestone, which is particularly rich in fossils.

Cycling route and chapel

On the “A Gerecse lábától Esztergomig” cycling route, the section after the turnoff at Úny towards Dág becomes more open. If you include the route in your plans, check the route conditions before setting out.

The Millennium Memorial Chapel is located within the settlement of Dág and was built in 2001 using its own funds and with government support. Its construction date marks a more recent period alongside the church and the historical records of Kiscsévpuszta.
