Fegyvernek offers a variety of options for a stay: the Holt-Tisza, with opportunities for fishing, walking and relaxing on the shore, and historic buildings with Gothic and Baroque features. When looking for a holiday rental, you can first consider whether time by the water, architecture or a horseback ride is the deciding factor for you.
Water and Landscape
The Alsóréti Holt-Tisza was formed in 1856 when a natural riverbed developed as a result of the 74th Tisza river cut-off. It lies along the administrative boundaries of Fegyvernek, Nagykörű and Törökszentmiklós. Its formation is therefore linked to a specific intervention on the Tisza and the boundaries of three named municipalities.
The Holt-Tisza, which extends into Fegyvernek, offers opportunities for fishing, walking and relaxing on the shore. These three activities cater to different preferences: walking, spending time with a fishing rod or taking a quieter break by the water. This gives the landscape its own place alongside the historic buildings when choosing your travel interests.
Architectural History in Fegyvernek
The statue of Nepomuki Szent János in Fegyvernek-Szapárfalu was erected in 1775 in the Baroque style. It is located on Main Road 4, between kilometre markers 128 and 129. The statue group is protected by a brick structure with a triangular ground plan and triangular pillars, topped by a tent roof covered with shingles. The form of the shelter also shapes the architectural impression of the statue group.
The Fegyverneki Református Templom is located on Fegyvernek’s main road and is oriented along an east–west axis. A gate and an entrance hall stand in front of the eastern main façade. A tower with a pyramidal spire stands at the hall’s northern corner; an extension enclosing the liturgical space adjoins its west side. If you enjoy viewing buildings in terms of their layout, you can follow the east–west orientation and the interplay of the entrance hall, tower and western extension here.
The Pusztatorony in Fegyvernek is a Gothic architectural monument, built around 1480. Together with the Baroque statue erected in 1775, it offers a comparison across time: the tower is dated approximately, while the statue is dated to a specific year. This makes it possible to distinguish two different historical reference points without treating the tower’s approximate date as an exact year of construction.
Horse Riding as Another Area of Interest
Németh tanya, on the edge of Fegyvernek, is recommended for people interested in horse riding and trail rides. This adds an equestrian theme to the choice between water and architectural history. If you are planning a visit or a ride, ask in advance about current visiting and booking options.
