Tiszaderzs brings together three distinct themes: animals at Kenguru Park, books at the Tiszaderzsi Biblia Múzeum and boat trips on Lake Tisza. This makes it a destination for a trip where wildlife, culture and an excursion on the water can be weighed up as different priorities. The best order depends on whether you would rather see animals, explore a book collection or experience the lake from a boat.

Animals on the edge of town

On the edge of Tiszaderzs, Kenguru Park is home to Bennett's wallabies, red kangaroos, Australian birds, meerkats, alpacas and zebras. One special feature is the opportunity to walk among the Bennett's wallabies. A visit is therefore not limited to viewing these kangaroos from a distance: visitors can walk among them. Books at the Tiszaderzsi Biblia Múzeum

The Tiszaderzsi Biblia Múzeum offers a different focus. Its collection comprises nearly 400 volumes, mostly from the Carpathian Basin; around two-thirds are Bible translations in languages other than Hungarian. These include German, English and Russian. Roman Catholic and Protestant prayer and hymn books are also on display. The translations and books for prayer and singing offer different ways to explore the collection: you can focus on the languages represented or on the types of religious books on display. From Kárász Kikötő onto Lake Tisza

At Kárász Kikötő, the focus shifts from animals and books to the water. The harbor lies in the protected “KUBIK” bay and serves as a starting point for numerous boat trips on Lake Tisza. If you would like to include a tour in your stay, you can plan to set off from the harbor. Check in advance which trips are currently available before planning your day around one. This means Tiszaderzs offers specific attractions both on land and on the water, without prescribing a fixed order for visiting them.

Nature conservation and the regional setting

Nature conservation is also relevant to understanding the area: the 2014 management plan for the Tisza Lake Site of Community Importance lists Tiszaderzs as one of the municipalities concerned. This entry adds a regional nature-conservation perspective to the specific attractions for visitors.

In the wider destination of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Lake Tisza is a tourist center in the county's northern part. The lake and its surroundings are also among the region's outstanding areas for cycling tourism; the international EuroVelo 11 cycle route runs along the Tisza through Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok. For a specific cycling trip, it is worth choosing the right section along the river. Another nature attraction in the wider destination of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok is the Tiszakürt Arboretum. Since 2001, it has been a nature reserve of national importance and is home to more than 1,000 plant species and varieties. In Öregkert, a signposted network of paths, 3.5 kilometers long, is available for walking. The regional setting therefore offers botanical collections and walking paths as distinct options alongside the lake and cycling tourism.
