The Gödör Bird-Friendly Park gives Cibakháza a distinctive natural focus: walking by the water and birdwatching are among the activities available in the park. The Cibakházi-Holt-Tisza adds another connection to the landscape, while the listed church on Szabadság tér provides a historical focus. Cibakháza brings together an interest in nature and local history.

Water, Walking and Birdlife

The Gödör Bird-Friendly Park invites you to enjoy a relaxing walk by the water. Visitors can also watch birds there. This brings two interests together in one place: exercise outdoors and an appreciation of birdlife. If you like to combine nature watching with a walk when choosing a destination, this park is a specific place to consider.

The Cibakházi-Holt-Tisza covers 140 hectares and is 17 kilometres long. It is also a breeding ground for the globally endangered ferruginous duck. Cibakháza therefore offers different nature-related interests: birdwatching as an activity in the park and the importance of the waterway as a breeding ground. A facility with washrooms is located by the Gödör, on the shore of the Cibakházi Holt-Tisza.

Local History on Szabadság tér

The listed Roman Catholic church on Szabadság tér was built between 1757 and 1760. Its construction history adds a tangible historical point of reference to the nature-related attractions. If you would like to include local history in your travel plans alongside walks and birdlife, you will find a different focus here: the history of a single building rather than a body of water or its wildlife.

The Wider Region: Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok

In the wider destination of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Lake Tisza, in the northern part of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok County, is a tourist hub. The lake and its surroundings are among the region’s outstanding areas for cycle tourism. The international EuroVelo 2 cycle route is also part of the regional picture: it runs along the Tisza through the county. So alongside Cibakháza’s local water- and bird-related attractions, there are also regional cycling options to consider if you want to plan your stay around a particular interest.

The Tiszakürt Arboretum is another natural attraction in the wider destination. It is of national botanical importance and has been a nature reserve of national importance since 2001. Its collection includes more than 1,000 plant species and varieties. In the Öregkert area, a 3.5-kilometre network of signposted paths is available for walking. Plant diversity and marked walking trails provide a distinct focus within the region’s nature attractions.

For those interested in culture, the Kiss-Pál Museum in Tiszafüred offers another regional point of interest. It is one of Hungary’s oldest rural museums and is housed in a Neoclassical mansion built by the Lipcsey family in the first half of the 19th century. The museum has two permanent exhibitions: one on Tiszafüred’s approximately 7,000-year archaeological past and one on folk culture, featuring outstanding objects from the 17th and 18th centuries. Check the exhibition details before travelling. This makes it possible to distinguish the local interest in the church’s architectural history in Cibakháza from the archaeological and folk culture themes of the wider destination.
