The “Vidéki gazdálkodás útja” (“Rural Farming Route”) circles the area around Kisfüzes. Other local points of interest include the Barka Rendezvényporta, the almost level area at Vártető, and the Mária-szobor. Beyond Kisfüzes, the wider destination of Heves offers its own landscape and cultural themes.

Barka: event space and exhibition

The Barka Rendezvényporta has a multifunctional lecture and exhibition space available for events and programmes. The arrangements are tied to this venue. Barka is therefore a distinct point of reference if you are interested in events and exhibitions.

The area around the Barka Rendezvényporta includes interactive panels and the exhibition “A földtől az asztalig” (“From the Soil to the Table”). If you plan to make the exhibition a fixed part of your itinerary, check current visiting options in advance. The interactive panels, the space, and the “A földtől az asztalig” exhibition are three distinct points of interest.

Vártető and a historic monument

Vártető is a different local feature from the tour route that circles the village: it is an almost completely level area around 17 metres long and 11 metres wide. Its length is therefore approximately six metres greater than its width; its nearly level character is also part of the area’s description.

A historical description of the municipality calls the Mária-szobor one of the oldest monuments in Kisfüzes. It provides a different historical emphasis from the description of the Vártető area. Together with the route and the features around Barka, these named places offer different points of reference for choosing your own interests, without needing to combine them into a fixed itinerary.

More themes in the wider destination of Heves

For nature lovers, the wider destination of Heves has two nature trails with different focuses. The 6.5-kilometre Ilona Valley Nature Trail along the Ilona Stream passes geological features of the Eastern Mátra Mountains and traces of former ore mining. The Pély-Ludas Nature Trail introduces the grassland habitats of the Heves Plain: these include saline grasslands, marshes, bodies of water, scrub, semi-natural wooded areas and forests, as well as their wildlife and the European roller population. One trail combines geological themes with traces of mining, while the other focuses on habitats and species.

The landscape protection areas also provide a regional perspective. In the southern part of Heves County lies the 16,114-hectare Hevesi Füves Puszták Landscape Protection Area. It was designated in 1993 and reached its present extent following expansions in 2005 and 2008. For a different focus, the section of the Országos Kéktúra in Heves County leads to Kékestető, the highest point in Hungary. In winter, fans of active tourism can enjoy winter sports there.

Culture and gastronomy are also part of the wider destination of Heves. The Szépasszony Valley is home to Eger’s largest continuous wine-cellar district; wine culture and the gastronomy associated with it are among its major tourist attractions. Another aspect of cultural heritage is the Hevesi szőttes, a textile heritage from Heves County associated with Heves, Mátraderecske and Bodony. In the regional context, wine country and gastronomy sit alongside textile heritage, while the nature trails and protected areas appeal to other interests.
