In Kisköre, water-related themes range from the ecological fish corridor to long cycling routes around Lake Tisza. Views, guided boat tours and routes of different lengths offer a range of options for planning your stay.

Fish Corridor and Water Infrastructure

The Kisköre Fish Ladder was built in 2014 and is 1,371 metres long. As an ecological fish corridor, it connects Lake Tisza with the river section below the barrage. It serves as a natural passage for the fish living there and is considered Europe’s largest ecological corridor. The fish ladder also has a monitoring room used to observe the movements of the fish.

The Kisköre barrage, located nearby, offers another perspective on water infrastructure. There, an 85 × 12 metre ship lock allows large ships and barges to pass through. This means that the area around Kisköre features both an ecological fish corridor and a lock designed for shipping.

Views and Boat Tours

The boat-shaped Lábasház Observation Tower in Kisköre is 19 metres high. From there, you can see parts of the Abádszalók Basin and the Kisköre barrage. The tower combines a distinctive design with a clear view of the basin and water infrastructure.

Guided boat tours depart from Kisköre harbour. As well as viewing the area from the observation tower, you can choose to take a guided tour. If you are interested in the waterways, you can consider these options separately from planning a cycling trip: one is about views or a boat tour, the other about choosing your own route length.

Shore, Rentals and Cycling Routes

Ring-a-tó Beach is located right on the living Tisza. Its tree-lined stretch of shore is more than 200 metres long. The beach brings together the riverbank and activities on the water and on land.

Kayaks, canoes, SUPs and bicycles are available to rent at Ring-a-tó Kisköre Beach and Apartment Park. Availability may vary by season; check in advance that the equipment you want will be available for your planned outing. This lets you match your choice of activity to what is on offer at the time of your visit.

Lake Tisza can be circled in its entirety by bicycle. Starting from the rental shop at Ring-a-tó Beach, you can choose a shorter 67-kilometre route or a longer 95-kilometre one. The difference is 28 kilometres, making it easy to compare the options when choosing a suitable overall distance. These cycling routes complement the shorter water-related activities with a longer ride.
