Mátraszentimre offers several distinct options for a stay: winter sports, hiking, cycling, and religious sites. The Sípark lies between Mátraszentistván and Mátraszentlászló; the local trails differ considerably in length and route. There is also the Roman Catholic church in the center and Fallóskút as a pilgrimage site. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether outdoor activities or sacred sites should take priority.

Winter sports and hiking trails

The Sípark between Mátraszentistván and Mátraszentlászló has ten runs of varying difficulty, with a total length of 4,300 meters. The different difficulty levels are a distinctive feature of the offering, while the trails vary in route and distance. The run configuration may change, so check the operator’s current conditions before traveling.

Two hiking trails, different routes

The 7 km Vörös-kő tour runs from Mátraszentimre via Mátraszentistván, the Vörös-kő lookout tower, and the Három falu temploma church, before returning to Mátraszentimre. It is a circular route with named stops along the way. Check local conditions before setting out.

A considerably shorter option is the Szénégetők útja: this 600-meter walking trail starts at the end of Széchenyi utca and leads to Bőgős-rét. The elevation difference is just under 30 meters. The trails therefore differ not only in length compared with the Vörös-kő tour: the tour returns to Mátraszentimre, while the walking trail ends in Bőgős-rét. Distance, route, and endpoint are therefore useful points of reference when choosing.

Church and pilgrimage site

The Roman Catholic church in the center of Mátraszentimre was consecrated in 1980, based on plans by Mária Németh. Fallóskút is now a district of Mátraszentimre and a pilgrimage site known throughout the country. The church in the town center and the pilgrimage site in the district are two religious points of interest in different locations. Cultural and spiritual themes thus complement the choice between the trails described above and winter sports.

A cycling tour with an optional detour

The cycling tour starts at the Görgő-bikki pihenő and runs via Görgői út, Mátraszentimre, Galyatető, Mátra-nyereg, and Mátraháza, returning to the starting point. Három falu Temploma can be included as a detour. On the Vörös-kő tour, the church is part of the stated route; on the cycling tour, it remains optional. You can take this difference into account when planning if you want to include the church as a set stop on the hike or as a possible addition to the cycling tour.

Heves within the wider regional context

In the wider travel destination of Heves County, the Hevesi Füves Puszták Landscape Protection Area lies in the southern part of the county. The protected area, covering 16,114 hectares, was designated in 1993; expansions in 2005 and 2008 brought it to its current size. Also within the wider regional context of Heves County, the section of the Országos Kéktúra in Heves County includes the ascent of Kékestető, Hungary’s highest point.
