The thermal spring and flowing water continue to shape the white, jagged limestone formations at Sódomb in the south of Egerszalók. They give the area a distinctive landscape. Marked trails, a local history collection and historic buildings are also available as separate points of interest.

Sódomb, Trails and Water

Sódomb is protected locally. A landscaped walking path, created after the bath was built, leads to it. Check local conditions before visiting. The blue-marked Sódomb hike is an approximately five-kilometre route over easy terrain that can be covered on foot or by bicycle.

The red-marked Öreghegy hike is about 2.5 kilometres long, also follows easy terrain and can be walked. This makes it possible to compare the approximate lengths: the Öreghegy route is about half as long as the Sódomb hike. The modes of travel specified for each route are also worth considering when choosing.

From the recreational park at the Saliris Resort bath, signs and markers point the way to the beehive stones Kőbojtár and Kőasszony, as well as Menyecske-hegy. From Ady E. út, an approximately 150-metre footpath leads to the beehive stone Betyárbújó. These are distinct, named destinations that you can use to orient yourself.

Egerszalóki-tó was created by damming the Laskó-patak. A single-arched stone bridge, built in the 19th century, also crosses the same stream. These two details highlight different aspects of the Laskó-patak: the lake as a result of the damming and the bridge as a historic structure.

Collection, Church and Local History

A local history collection is housed in the cave dwellings on Sáfrány utca. The Baroque church visible in Egerszalók today was built in 1738 to plans by the Italian-born master Giovanni Battista Carlone. Together, the collection and the church offer two distinct ways of exploring local history: a look at the area's past and a dated building with a named architect.

The pilgrimages also have a traditional origin: they began after news spread of the miraculous healing of a blind girl.

A Distinct Regional Context: Heves

Within the wider destination of Heves, the Hevesi Füves Puszták Landscape Protection Area lies in the southern part of Heves County. The protected area covers 16,114 hectares. It was designated in 1993 and reached its present extent following expansions in 2005 and 2008.

Also within the wider destination of Heves, the 6.5-kilometre Ilona-völgyi nature trail runs along the Ilona stream. Its themes include the geological features of the Eastern Mátra Mountains and the remains of earlier ore mining. This regional context offers a distinct perspective on protected areas, geology and mining history; these topics are separate from the sights and trails in Egerszalók.
