The Székely Gate, the Roman Catholic church and trails in the surrounding forests give Sokorópátka several distinct points of interest: a striking structure with its surrounding park, a church with its history, and opportunities for longer hikes nearby. This can help you decide whether to focus your stay mainly on culture, make time for the forest, or combine both.

Székely Gate and Összetartozás Park

The Székely Gate spans a road on Győri út. It is 10.5 metres high and 16 metres wide, and its carved surface covers 28 square metres. Összetartozás Park surrounds the gate and complements it, though it is not structurally connected to it. The park covers just under 2,600 square metres. Information boards there provide information about the gate, its creation and its supporters. An avenue of native fruit-tree varieties from the Sokoró region adds to the park. Several features can therefore be appreciated side by side: the dimensions of the gate, information about its creation, and planting with a regional connection. When planning your time here, these details can draw your attention beyond the structure itself to the park.

Church and historic paintings

The Roman Catholic Church of Magyarok Nagyasszonya is located at 69 Öreg utca and was built in 1913. In 1941, painter József Pandúr painted the interior. The construction and painting dates are 28 years apart; they mark different points in the history of the same place of worship. Those interested in church history can consider the building and its later interior decoration as two distinct chapters. Alongside the gate and park, this provides another clearly dated point of reference in the history of the village.

Hiking in the surrounding forests

Tourist trails in the vicinity of Sokorópátka pass through the surrounding forests, making longer hikes possible. This offers a different way to shape your trip alongside visits to the structures: instead of focusing on individual sights in the village, you can set aside time for a longer hike. You can tailor the balance of culture and nature to your preferred focus without needing to follow a particular order of activities.

Regional perspective: Győr-Moson-Sopron

The wider destination of Győr-Moson-Sopron offers a separate regional perspective. The Benedictine Abbey in Pannonhalma was founded in 996. The World Heritage property of the Archabbey and its natural surroundings includes the monastic complex, basilica, educational buildings, the Chapel of Our Lady, the Millennium Chapel, and botanical and herb gardens. Scheduled buses run daily from the bus station in Győr to the main entrance of the Archabbey. Check the current timetable before planning your trip.

Another regional theme is the Fertő/Neusiedler See Cultural Landscape. It comprises Eurasia’s westernmost steppe lake as well as wetlands, saline soils, reed beds and shoreline areas. Lake Neusiedl forms the core of Fertő-Hanság National Park; the Hungarian part of the lake has been protected since 1977. This landscape offers a distinct regional perspective alongside Sokorópátka’s gate, park and church.
