In Röjtökmuzsaj, wellness, local history and cycling can each provide a different focus for a stay. The Szidónia Castle Hotel also allows non-hotel guests to use its bathhouse; at the same time, churches, a chapel and historic monuments shape the village. There is also a cycling route through Röjtökmuzsaj and the Muzsaji Fishing Lake in the Muzsaj district. If you are looking for accommodation, it helps to decide first whether you would rather focus on the wellness facilities, historic sites or cycling.
Wellness by prior arrangement
Non-hotel guests can use the bathhouse at the Szidónia Castle Hotel. Advance booking by telephone is required, and places are allocated subject to availability. The hotel’s wellness facilities include a swimming pool, sauna, steam bath, Kneipp rondel, thermal ceramic loungers, a relaxation room with loungers and a fitness room. The options therefore range from water and heat treatments to relaxation and exercise. If you would like to include the bathhouse in your stay, take the booking requirement and limited availability into account when planning.
Churches, chapel and local history
The Roman Catholic church in Röjtökmuzsaj stands at a corner of the main road. After the earlier church was demolished in 1869, construction of the present church began to plans by Sopron architect Nándor Handler. In the Röjtök district stands the neo-Gothic Kisboldogasszony Parish Church, a well-known pilgrimage site in the surrounding area. The church preserves a 16th-century wooden statue of the Madonna of Wimpác. In the Muzsaj district, a chapel was built in 1923 and dedicated to the apparition of the Virgin Mary at Lourdes. The building history, neo-Gothic architecture, pilgrimage tradition and dedication of the chapel offer different perspectives on the religious history of the village.
Secular monuments, too, offer insights into different periods. Felsőbüki Nagy-Verseghy Castle was expanded into a castle in the second half of the 18th century by converting a Széchényi family manor. In 1926, under Verseghy Nagy Elek, it acquired its present form. Other late Baroque monuments include a Holy Trinity column dating from 1794 and a statue of Saint Anne from 1800. While the two works of art can be dated to specific years, the castle’s development continued into the 20th century, when it took on its present form.
The Muzsaji Watermill is an industrial heritage monument on the Ikva, partly standing on stilts. It is currently not open to visitors; take this into account when planning.
Cycling route, lake and choosing accommodation
The Fertő–Balaton Cycle Route passes through Röjtökmuzsaj. The Alpokalja Loop lists the village as a stop featuring the Szidónia Castle Hotel. The two route references therefore differ: the first is stated to pass through the village, while Röjtökmuzsaj appears on the loop as a stop featuring the hotel.
The Muzsaji Fishing Lake is in the Muzsaj district. The leisure facilities by the lake include a restaurant and comfortable apartments. If you are planning to use the restaurant or stay in the apartments, check in advance whether they are currently operating. The village’s history and cycling route offer further themes around which to plan your stay.
