Waterways and historic buildings give Dunakiliti-Tejfalusziget a clear thematic character. The landscape along the Old Danube, the Mosoni-Danube and winding side channels sits alongside churches, a castle and a village museum. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can consider which of these themes you want to shape your stay.

Water, Nature and Trails

The landscape of Dunakiliti is shaped by the Old Danube, the Mosoni-Danube and winding side channels. The Kisrévi-Duna-ág runs alongside the built-up area and is used for waterside recreation, angling and fishing. The Danube side channels within the municipality are also suitable for canoe trips.

The area can also be explored on foot: Dunakiliti offers opportunities for walks and hikes in a peaceful, natural setting. The Kiserdei-Sétány introduces visitors to the flora and fauna of Szigetköz. One specific route, the 3.7 km Fenékküszöb Tour, is presented as a family activity and hike. The Pintér Bridge and its surroundings offer another perspective on the landscape: the bridge is for pedestrians and is set in an attractive natural landscape. The tour focuses on its stated hiking distance, while the promenade highlights the flora and fauna of Szigetköz.

Building History and Village Life

The neo-Gothic Szent-Kereszt-Felmagasztalása-Templom in Dunakiliti features frescoes and pointed-arch stained-glass windows in colored and pink glass. The Millennium Oak, planted in 1896, stands in front of the church. In summer, it provides shade for visitors who stop to rest there.

Batthyány Castle was built between 1858 and 1862 in the early Historicist style. The Falumúzeum offers a different view of local history: it showcases village life in the past and exhibits tools with written explanations. Construction of the Szent-Mihály Chapel in Tejfalusziget, a district belonging to Dunakiliti, began in 1935 as a family chapel.

Weir and Visitor Center

Dunakiliti’s visitor center is located in the operating building of the Dunakiliti Weir. It was established as part of the Insula Magna project and handed over in autumn 2023. Themed maps and information boards accompany scale models at 1:100: one of the Dunakiliti Weir with its ship lock, and one of the power station and ship lock at Bős. The center also offers an interactive touchscreen visualization table and two interactive touchscreen kiosk tablets.

The Dunakiliti Weir lies about 2 to 3 km outside the village, in the surrounding countryside, and is recommended as a place worth visiting. The bridge over the unfinished weir offers visitors an impressive view.

Nature Park Municipality and Event

Dunakiliti has been a Szigetköz Nature Park Municipality since March 2018. Every year, in Dunakiliti-Tejfalusziget, the Szigetköz Lelke Pálinkaház holds a Pálinka festival featuring a competition for people who commission distillations. If you would like to include the festival in your travel plans, check the specific event dates in advance.
