The archaeological traces in Börgönd span several periods: Celtic, Roman, and Late Avar graves have been excavated. The Páduai Szent Antal Chapel combines a distinctive architectural form with a specific commemorative purpose. Community events, animal species, aviation, and the Dinnyési Fertő wetland offer further, varied points of interest. If you are looking for a holiday rental, you can first decide whether history, nature, or a particular occasion should shape your stay.
Archaeology, Architecture, and Community
The graves in Börgönd date from Celtic, Roman, and Late Avar times. This span gives the town’s history more than one historical reference point. The Páduai Szent Antal Chapel adds a much later, precisely dated memorial: it was built in 1920 in memory of Countess Alice Esterházy, wife of Antal Cziráky.
The chapel has a single-nave floor plan and a façade articulated by pilasters. A single-nave floor plan organizes the church interior around a single nave; pilasters articulate the façade as flat elements set against the wall. In this way, the interior layout and exterior design stand out as two distinct architectural features. The chapel is considered to have local historical and architectural heritage value.
Directly beside the chapel, the community oven built by local residents now serves as a venue for Börgöndi Mulatságok and other community events. This creates a clear contrast between a memorial dating from 1920 and its present-day use as an event venue.
Landscape, Animals, and Aviation
The Börgöndpusztai Horgászparadicsom and Leisure Park lies on the eastern edge of Börgöndpuszta, near the Dinnyési Fertő wetland. Its location links the park’s fishing and leisure facilities with a specific landscape. The park had accommodation in wooden cabins, tent pitches, and sanitary facilities; it also had a waterside shelter and fishing piers. If you plan to use any of these facilities, check their current availability in advance.
At the Börgöndpusztai Állatsimogató, visitors can get to know and experience nearly 40 animal species. Börgönd Airfield is located near Börgönd. In recent years, it has been used for powered and glider flying, hang gliding, parachute jumps, and sport and recreational flights; training in powered and glider flying has also been available. If you would like to plan your stay around flying activities, check in advance what is offered on your dates.
More Perspectives in the Székesfehérvár Destination
The wider Székesfehérvár destination offers further nature and geology highlights. At Lake Velence, reed beds provide habitat for thousands of waterbirds. Several hiking trails lead from Pákozd to the Pákozdi Ingókövek rock formations; these trails can also be cycled. Established in 1994, the geological educational trail connects the rock formations. The bird habitat by the lake and the rock formations with their educational trail offer different perspectives to choose from.
