Mór brings together historical themes at Lamberg Castle and wine experiences in town. This gives visitors two distinct areas to explore: cultural history and wine experiences. At the castle, its architectural history, insights into the lives of Mór’s German population and silkscreen prints by Victor Vasarely are presented side by side. The wineries offer various formats, from wine tastings to smaller wine dinners or a cellar visit with an optional meal. Check the castle’s tour times before travelling and arrange visits to the wineries directly with them.
Castle, Collection and Art
Lamberg Castle was designed by Jakab Fellner and built between 1762 and 1766 by Count Ferenc Antal Lamberg as the Lamberg family’s summer residence. The Swabian House in the castle offers another perspective on local history, providing insight into the lives of the German population that settled in Mór. On display are furniture and household items from the early 20th century, traditional costumes, prayer books and other religious mementos. Everyday objects, clothing and religious mementos thus present different aspects of this local history side by side.
Silkscreen prints by Victor Vasarely are on display in the Vasarely Room. Together with the Swabian House, they give the castle a cultural focus encompassing local life and fine art. The permanent exhibitions thus cover a range of themes within the same historic building.
Guided tours are available for the permanent exhibitions. The tour schedule lists times of 10:00, 12:00, 13:30 and 15:00 from Tuesday to Sunday, March through October; from November to February, it lists 10:00, 12:00 and 13:30 from Tuesday to Sunday. Monday is marked as a closing day on the schedule. Confirm the tour times and closing day before travelling.
Wine Tastings and Cellar Experiences
In the town centre at Ezerjó utca 3, Miklóscsabi Pincéje offers wine tastings and smaller wine dinners. If you plan to take part in either, arrange the details with the winery.
Frey Pincészet offers cellar tours and wine tastings in its listed cellar on Mór’s historic cellar row. A cold meal served on a farmhouse platter is available on request. The offerings also differ in format: Miklóscsabi includes smaller wine dinners, while at Frey a cellar tour can be combined with a wine tasting, with the cold meal as an optional extra. Check the details directly with the relevant winery before visiting.
Nature in the Wider Destination of Weißenburg
The wider destination of Weißenburg also offers nature experiences. The Pákozdi Ingókövek rock formations can be reached from Pákozd via several hiking trails, which can also be cycled. A geological educational trail established in 1994 connects the rock formations. At Lake Velence, reed beds provide a habitat for thousands of waterbirds. These nature experiences broaden the range of options in the wider destination to include hiking trails, rock formations and a bird habitat.
