Csákberény combines a trail through changing forest landscapes with a parish church full of art-historical details. It also has a winery on the Ezerjó Wine Route and offerings from Orondpusztai Gazdaság, whose current availability you should check in advance. This makes it possible to get to know the town through nature, architecture and regional wine culture, without combining the different themes into a set excursion itinerary.

Trail and Forest Landscapes

The 4,620-meter-long Vértesi Panoráma Nature Trail begins at the hunting museum and also leads to a lookout point. Along the route, depending on soil conditions and terrain, rocky grasslands, karst shrub forests, dry oak forests, hornbeam-oak forests, beech forests, oak forests and managed forests alternate. The trail is therefore shaped by more than its lookout point: the variety of forest and landscape types is also part of its character.

The designated starting point is the Gróf Merán Fülöp Vadászati és Erdészeti Múzeum (Count Fülöp Merán Hunting and Forestry Museum). It opened in October 2014 in the center of the former Merán estate in Csákberény. The route and the museum give the nature theme a specific local connection.

Church and Art in Csákberény

The Szent Márton plébániatemplom (St. Martin Parish Church) is 26.14 meters long and 12.55 meters wide; its interior height is 12 meters. The tower is 28 meters high. Furnishings include an altar and an ornate pulpit. The dimensions give a precise sense of the building’s proportions, while the interior details form a subject in their own right.

Three bells hang in the tower: the death bell weighs 120 kilograms, the Szt. Kereszt bell 250 kilograms and the Szt. Márton bell 360 kilograms. Their names and weights clearly distinguish the bells from one another; they are another specific detail in the church’s description.

The altarpiece depicts Saint Martin, the future Bishop of Tours, as a Roman officer giving half of his soldier’s cloak to a freezing beggar. A sculptural group of the Holy Trinity adorns the upper part of the altar. Above the sacristy door is an image of Christ on the Cross; a side niche contains the tomb of Count Lamberg Rudolf, his wife Countess Hoyos Terézia and their children.

The Stations of the Cross also bring together art and local history: they come from a German school of painting and were donated in 1863 by Countess Lamberg Rudolfné. Along with the altarpiece, the Trinity group and the pulpit, they offer several distinct motifs to focus on when learning about the church.

Wine and Group Activities

Sáfrán Pince is a family-run craft winery on Orondi szőlőhegy in Csákberény, on the Ezerjó Wine Route. The winery offers high-quality wines and welcomes both walk-in guests and those who have booked in advance. The wine selection may vary. If you are planning a visit, you can therefore book in advance and ask about the current selection.

A description of Orondpusztai Gazdaság, last updated in 2017, mentions a play barn for children’s groups, equipped with straw bales, swings and ropes. It is intended for play, school trips and birthday parties. For winter, the same description lists farm and family pig slaughters, team-building days, and cheese and wine tastings. If you would like to plan for any of these activities, check current availability in advance.

More Nature Experiences in the Wider Székesfehérvár Destination

As separate nature experiences in the wider Székesfehérvár destination, consider the Pákozdi Ingókövek and Lake Velence. The rock formations can be reached from Pákozd by several hiking trails that can also be cycled. A geological educational trail, established in 1994, connects the rock formations. This information concerns the wider Székesfehérvár destination, not Csákberény.

Also in the wider Székesfehérvár destination, the reed beds around Lake Velence provide a habitat for thousands of waterbirds. This is a distinct landscape feature alongside the forest types along the Vértesi Panoráma Nature Trail in Csákberény.
