Nadap combines an elevation datum established in 1888 with Neo-Gothic architecture, protected streetscapes and distinctive hills in the Velence Mountains. The Szintezési Ɛsjegy is a reference point whose role extends beyond the town: elevation measurements across the country are based on it. Cultural attractions and landscapes with varied views and natural features round out the picture.

An elevation datum of national significance

The SzintezĂ©si Ɛsjegy has served as Hungary’s elevation datum since 1888. Elevation measurements across the country are based on it—a special connection to discover during a visit to Nadap. A short, easy walk leads from the town centre to this freely accessible point. Information boards and wayfinding signs help visitors find their way along the route. Check local conditions again before your visit.

Church, streetscape and remembrance

The present-day PalermĂłi Szent RozĂĄlia Church is a Neo-Gothic building designed by architect JenƑ HĂŒbner. Individual sections of HaladĂĄs utca and the streetscape of RĂĄkĂłczi utca are locally protected. Alongside the elevation datum, these architectural and streetscape features give the town its own cultural and historical character.

Vörösmarty MihĂĄly was baptised in Nadap on 3 December 1800. Vörösmarty MihĂĄly’s baptismal font can be viewed in the church during Sunday and public holiday services; groups can see it by prior arrangement. As visiting arrangements may change, check the current options in advance.

Finds from the surrounding area also contribute to the region’s cultural heritage: Bronze Age weapons, jewellery and everyday objects can be viewed at the Szent IstvĂĄn KirĂĄly Museum in SzĂ©kesfehĂ©rvĂĄr. If you would like to explore this topic further, check in advance whether the objects are currently on display, as the exhibition may change.

Hills, views and nature

Nadap lies in a particularly scenic part of the Velence Mountains, where landforms, forests, rock formations and human-made memorials come together. A significant proportion of Nadap’s undeveloped land is protected and belongs to the Natura 2000 ecological network. The landscape takes on a different character on each of the hills.

CsĂșcsos-hegy offers views of Lake Velence and the surrounding wooded slopes. It can be reached via a pleasant hiking trail and is especially popular with hikers, cyclists and amateur photographers. The hill is also a popular destination for paragliders, although there are only a few launch sites there.

Several local hiking trails cross Meleg-hegy along Nadap’s southern to southeastern boundary. Its slopes are home to wildflower meadows, vineyards and rare bird species. Templom-hegy, on the boundary of Nadap, is a historical and spiritual site as well as a peaceful, wooded place for an excursion. From there, views stretch across Nadap, towards LovasberĂ©ny and as far as the Meleg-hegy mountain range.

These differences can help you choose what to focus on: CsĂșcsos-hegy is all about views and hiking trails, while Meleg-hegy offers paths on the edge of town and natural slopes. Templom-hegy combines woodland and views with its historical and spiritual character. Horse riding is also available in Nadap. The town is also considered a starting point for hikes, panoramic photography, family outings and peaceful relaxation.
