Rácalmás can be explored through two distinct themes: the city’s historic traces and the landscapes of Rácalmási Nagy-sziget. The routes each have their own focus: they pass former castles and mansions, lead to sights from the past, or visit memorial sites connected with religious history. On the island, the focus is on floodplain landscapes, wildlife and plant life, and the history of the area. This lets you tailor your stay to the kind of outing you prefer.

Historic Routes and Memorial Sites

Jankovich Mansion was built in the 1750s. The 2.5 km “Kastélyok, Kúriák” tour in Rácalmás passes former castles and mansions in the city. At 2.5 km, it is shorter than the 4.6 km “Ófalu” tour, which leads to sights from Rácalmás’s past. The two routes therefore differ both in length and in how they explore the past.

The 15 km “Szakrális Emlékhelyek” tour leads to local memorial sites connected with religious history. It can be shortened as desired, thanks to two notable detours. It is the longest of the tours mentioned here, and the option to shorten it is worth bearing in mind when choosing a route.

Island Nature on Rácalmási Nagy-sziget

Rácalmási Nagy-sziget and the surrounding islands have been a nature reserve and part of Duna-Ipoly National Park since 1996. An educational floodplain trail crosses the island landscape. Check local conditions before your visit. Along the forest paths, 17 stops with large, colorful information boards share details about the wildlife and plant life and the history of the area. This island route brings nature and history together.

The 14 km “Nagy-sziget” tour passes the ecotourism educational trail and also explores the island’s unspoiled southern side. Compared with the 2.5 km and 4.6 km routes, it is the longer option and focuses on the island. In practical terms, the shorter routes explore historic themes, while this tour includes the island’s southern side.

A Dated Cultural Event

The 22nd edition of Rácalmási Tökfesztivál took place at Jankovich Mansion from September 18 to 20, 2026. The program included cultural and culinary offerings, such as music and art performances, folk art and crafts, exhibitions, and tastings of Hungarian and international food and drink. These program details refer to this past edition.
