Röszke offers a variety of ways to spend your stay: paprika culture at the museum, nature watching in the museum garden, a longer educational trail and noteworthy details in the village landscape. You can plan your time according to whether you want to explore culture, landscape or local history above all.

Paprika Culture and Museum Garden

The Röszker Paprika Malom és Múzeum tells the 200-year history of paprika culture in Szeged and Hungary. The exhibition texts can be read in Hungarian, English and German; guided tours are offered in Hungarian and English. If you would like to arrange a guided tour, confirm the arrangements with the operator before your visit.

There are no stairs in the museum or on its grounds; the grounds are wheelchair accessible. Check the current condition of the site before you travel. This keeps accessibility information part of your planning without having to rely solely on a general description.

The museum garden is open to visitors from spring through autumn. Its biodiversity-friendly character also makes it a place for nature watching. The museum and garden offer different experiences: the exhibition focuses on paprika culture, while the garden invites you to turn your attention to nature.

Educational Trail and Protected Landscapes

The Röszke III Educational Trail leads from the school to Molnár-rét and Madarász-tó. The route is 8 km long, and the walk takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. These details give you a clear timeframe for fitting the trail into your day alongside other sightseeing.

Kancsal-tó is located near Röszke. It preserves particularly clear remnants of the former wildlife of saline lakes and is part of the Röszke–Üllés cycling route. Check current route conditions before setting out. Since 2007, four semlyék in Röszke have also been under local protection: Molnár-rét, Börcsök-szék, Kókai-rét and Kancsal-rét. Find out about access to these areas before visiting.

Different points of reference can help you choose between the natural attractions: the III Educational Trail has a specified distance and walking time, while nearby Kancsal-tó is distinguished by its former saline lake habitats and its place on the cycling route. The four locally protected semlyék add to this landscape perspective, without implying that they form a single route.

Village Landscape, Church and Remembrance

House gables decorated with sunburst motifs can be seen in the built-up areas of Röszke. This decoration was typical of farmhouses in the Szeged area in the 18th century. The motif offers a tangible glimpse of regional architectural history that can be discovered in the village landscape today.

The Roman Catholic Church of St Anthony of Padua in Röszke preserves furnishings, some of which came from Szeged's Dömötör Church, demolished in 1923. The National Memorial, unveiled in 2011, also stands in the church garden. It takes the form of a triumphal arch; the plaque on its base lists important dates in Hungarian history. Together, the church and memorial offer different historical points of reference, without implying regular opening hours for visitors.

Events in August

The Röszke Village Days and the International Stuffed Cabbage Cooking Competition take place every year on the first weekend in August. If you want to plan your trip around these dates, check the current programme in advance.
