Edelény offers several distinct cultural perspectives: a Baroque castle ensemble in a bend of the Bódva, a nearly intact example of folk architecture, and a walk around the Borsodi Földvár. Castle rooms, an exhibition on the history of the Földvár and the ascending stations of the Császtai Kálvária offer different points of focus. You can therefore choose what to focus on based on whether you are most interested in architecture, historical interpretation or a route with views over the town.

Castle island, paths and guided tour

The Edelényi Kastélysziget is a Baroque castle ensemble in a bend of the Bódva. The 12-hectare island around the Kastélysziget has walking paths and riverside areas. This makes the castle rooms and paths by the water two different aspects of a visit. The castle tour lasts about an hour and a half. Visitors see the most beautiful rooms, learn about the history of the castle and gain insight into Baroque life. It begins with a 23-minute 3D film about the life and work of Edelény-born painter Ferenc Lieb. The film focuses on the artist, while the tour also covers the rooms, history and Baroque life. Check the current visiting arrangements before you travel.

Tájház and Földvár

The Borsodi Tájház in Edelény is a nearly intact example of folk architecture along the Bódva. Its exhibition includes models, archaeological reconstructions and interactive content about the history of the Borsodi Földvár. The building and the exhibition offer distinct points of focus: one is about folk architecture, the other about presenting the history of the Földvár.

A walk around the Borsodi Földvár takes you over the hill of a centre dating back around a thousand years. The landscape and reconstructions illustrate the former fortifications and everyday life at the time. The entrance to the Földvár can be reached from the Tájház; check access conditions on site.

The Császtai Kálvária

The stations of the Császtai Kálvária climb up the hillside; below, views of the town open up. Unlike the castle rooms and exhibition, this is an outdoor exploration involving a clear climb. The view of Edelény offers a different point of focus from insights into the history of the castle or the exhibition on the history of the Földvár.

Getting there and planning your visit

Edelény can also be reached by train. You can plan your journey to fit with your intended visit, without relying on fixed departure times.

At about an hour and a half, the castle tour gives you a specific block of time to plan around. When planning your stay, you can decide whether to spend more time at the exhibition on the history of the Földvár, walking around the hill or visiting the stations of the Kálvária. These visits offer different thematic and spatial points of focus.
