Kétegyháza brings together a local history collection, a church described in distinctive terms, and a castle park surrounding the castle as an arboretum. These attractions appeal to several clearly distinct interests when choosing a place to stay: traditional everyday objects, Orthodox architecture and landscape. A cycling path adds a specific route to the town’s attractions. Those planning beyond the town can include the wider destination of Békés, with its distinctive nature and cultural experiences.

The Local History House and its collection

The Kétegyházi Román Tájház is also known as CASA MUZEU din Chitighaz. A traditional collection of folk and farming items is housed in a residential building. It brings together objects made by local self-sufficient farmers and craftspeople with everyday items from more distant regions. Thus, the collection includes items from local daily life alongside pieces from other areas. This gives the Local History House a distinctive focus among the town’s attractions: here, the emphasis is on objects and their connection to work and everyday life, while the church and castle park offer other ways to experience Kétegyháza.

The address given for the Local History House is Kossuth u. 68, Kétegyháza. Please confirm the address before your visit.

Church and castle park

The Romanian Orthodox Church in Kétegyháza is a detached, single-nave building. The cross on its tower stands 28 metres high. Local tradition says that the church was built with stones brought from Milova. The architectural description and the tradition offer different perspectives on the same building: one specifies its form and height, while the other tells a story about the origin of the stones.

The Andrássy-Almásy Castle Park surrounds the castle as an arboretum. It therefore adds a landscape focus to the architectural and folk-cultural themes. Together, the Local History House, church and park offer three clearly distinct ways to explore Kétegyháza, without merging them into a single attraction.

Cycling path in Kétegyháza

The cycling path, built in 2021, is 2.1 kilometres long and runs along Gyulai út and Toldi utca. If you plan to use the route, check its current condition beforehand. Its length and course provide a specific point of reference for planning, while the town’s other attractions appeal to interests beyond cycling.

More nature and culture in Békés

The wider destination of Békés offers further distinct nature and cultural experiences. The Körösvölgyi Animal Park in Szarvas is set in a 26-hectare grove. A walking trail of about two kilometres passes bird aviaries, animal houses, wetlands and spacious enclosures. Its focus therefore differs from Kétegyháza’s folk collection and architecture: here, the emphasis is on animal and nature areas along a walking trail.

The Jégmadár Water Nature Trail starts at the park’s pier. It runs along a one-kilometre stretch of the Szarvas–Békésszentandrás oxbow lake; eight floating buoy stations provide information about the oxbow and its flora and fauna. The trail is particularly suitable for canoeists and rowboaters without an expert guide, and is accessible only by canoe or boat. This access requirement is important when comparing the route with other nature experiences.

The Sterbetz István Bustard Conservation Visitor Centre in Réhely near Dévaványa offers another opportunity for nature observation. In Hungary, visitors can see great bustards at close range only here. Guided tours, birdwatching, nature photography, themed programmes and astronomy demonstrations can be requested. In Gyula, also within the wider destination of Békés, there is a castle built in the 15th century. Today, it is the only intact lowland brick castle in Central and Eastern Europe. These examples show the varied attractions in Békés without presenting them as features of Kétegyháza.
