Szanazug lies within the administrative area of Doboz, where the White and Black Körös rivers meet. Its riverside setting gives a stay a distinct focus; the history of Doboz and its surroundings offers another. For planning, these are two different perspectives: leisure by the water in Szanazug and historical points of interest in Doboz and the surrounding area.

Walking, Swimming and Water Activities in Szanazug

Szanazug is a popular destination for walking and swimming. There are free beaches on both banks of the river, and the water is clear and shallow. Walking and swimming offer different ways to spend your time: on land along the trails or by the water.

Holidaymakers can ride pedal boats and go kayaking and canoeing; visitors can also take a boat trip. The options range from steering your own craft on the water to taking a boat trip. If you plan a particular activity, check in advance how it is operated.

Historical Points of Interest in Doboz and Szanazug

Doboz and its surroundings were first mentioned in written records in 1075. Scythian, numerous Avar, and other pre-Carpathian finds have been discovered in the Szanazug area, including the remains of an old settlement and a church. The written records and archaeological finds therefore offer different historical points of reference: the first mention concerns Doboz and its surroundings, while the finds come from the Szanazug area.

Holiday Homes and Length of Stay

In Szanazug, holidaymakers can spend an afternoon or several days in holiday homes. This can be planned as a short riverside break or a multi-day stay, with walking, swimming, and water activities each offering a different focus.

Other Distinct Destinations in the Wider Békés Destination

The wider Békés destination offers other nature and cultural attractions. In Anna-liget in Szarvas, the Körösvölgyi Animal Park is set in a 26-hectare grove. A walking trail about two kilometres long passes bird aviaries, animal houses, wetlands, and spacious enclosures. This offers a different focus from walking and swimming in Szanazug: at the park, animals and their habitats take centre stage along the trail.

The Jégmadár Water Nature Trail starts at the Körösvölgyi Animal Park’s pier. It follows a one-kilometre stretch of the Szarvas–Békésszentandrás oxbow lake. Eight floating buoy stations provide information about the oxbow lake and its animal and plant life. The trail is particularly suited to canoeists and rowboat users without an expert guide, and can only be reached by canoe or boat. This makes it practically different from the walking trail in the animal park: planning a visit to the water trail requires a watercraft.

The collection of the Munkácsy Mihály Museum in Békéscsaba includes natural history, archaeological, ethnographic, historical, and art historical objects. In addition to its natural attractions, Békés therefore offers access through a range of collection areas.
