Mecseknádasd brings together a landscape of valleys and hills, historic buildings and Swabian cuisine. When planning your visit, you can choose from a range of activities: a walk or bike ride, local history, fishing or local food. The wider destination of Branau also offers further cultural, natural and wine-related attractions.

The Valley and a Route Along the Cellar Rows

Mecseknádasd lies in a picturesque valley on the edge of the Kelet-Mecsek Landscape Protection Area. The Réka-patak, also known as the Öreg-patak, winds through the surrounding mountains and forests. On the northern outskirts, a walking or cycling route passes the cellar rows to Puszta-tető and continues to Kakas-hegy, also called Kickelsberg, which is 285 metres high. These destinations give the route a clear sequence; you can explore it on foot or by bike.

Buildings and Stories from Different Eras

On the western edge of the village, at the foot of Vogelsberg, the Német Nemzetiségi Tájház is housed in a former Gungl inn and residence complex built in 1891. The complex served as both an inn and a residence; the Tájház is located inside it.

A chapel facing east is documented at 6 Fő Street. In 1235 it appears under the name “Ecclesiam Sancti Ladislai Regis”; in 1330 it is mentioned as a parish and belonged to the Archdeaconry of Tolna. The two dates mark different historical references: the chapel’s first recorded mention and its later mention as a parish. During the reorganisation of Mecseknádasd parish in the 18th century, the smaller Szent-István Church in the upper part of the village also served as the parish church in 1719.

Local connections also play a part in Mecseki Óriás Kaland. Vasgyúró is the giant of Mecseknádasd, Kőmorzsoló is associated with the boundary of Hosszúhetény and Püspökszentlászló, and Fanyűvő belongs to Bikal. The figures thus refer to different places, not just Mecseknádasd.

Fishing Lake and Swabian Cuisine

Located outside Mecseknádasd, south of Main Road 6, the fishing lake is popular with anglers and is often used for fishing competitions, fishing camps and other events. The fish species found there most commonly include crucian carp, common carp, grass carp, pike, zander and catfish. The fish population can change over time. Check specific event dates in advance.

One local culinary term is Peke Khipfli, a Swabian kipfel made from yeast dough. Restaurants also serve typical local Swabian dishes.
