Orfű combines mill and craft culture with opportunities to try things for yourself and enjoy outdoor activities. The options differ depending on whether you want to learn about history and working processes, make something yourself, or get around on foot or by bike.
Mills, paper and history
Guided tours of the Orfű Mills introduce the history and working processes of the three mills. At the paper-making workshop of the Orfű Mills, you can see the steps involved in making paper and, with advance registration, make your own paper as part of a workshop. Check the current workshop arrangements in advance. Visitors can also try out the displayed hand mills, which are more than a hundred years old. This offers several different ways to explore: a tour covering the history and work of the mills, an introduction to paper-making, and the chance to handle the historic hand mills directly.
Try your hand at crafts
At the Orfű Craft Association, children and adults can try traditional crafts such as pottery, wood carving, basket weaving, felting and leatherwork. This means the hands-on activities extend beyond paper-making to include a range of materials and techniques. Check current program availability before your visit if you have a particular activity in mind.
Explore on foot and by bike
The Vízfő Spring nature trail, just under a kilometre long, starts at the car park of the Orfű Mill Museum and offers a short walk. A cycling route also leads back to Orfű via the Tekeres nature trail and cycle path, and through the streets of Kovácsszénája. The walk and cycle route therefore clearly differ in how you get around. As route details may change, check the current route before setting out.
In the wider region, the Mészégető-források Cave lies directly at the foot of an almost ten-metre-high rock face. The cave system has passages of varying sizes and an active stream.
