Kozármisleny lies in the central part of Baranya County, right next to Pécs and to the south and southeast of the city. The sculpture symposia and the works that have remained in the town give Kozármisleny its own cultural character. The wider Baranya destination also offers cultural, nature and culinary attractions in other places.

Sculpture Symposia in Kozármisleny

The sculpture symposia were held annually in Kozármisleny. Many of the works created there have remained in the town. Both the recurring artistic event and its surviving works are part of the local cultural scene. If you are interested in sculpture, this focus offers a specific starting point for exploring the town.

Culture in the Wider Baranya Destination

In Pécs, the Early Christian Necropolis of Sopianae includes decorated tombs dating from the 4th century. The tombs were built as underground burial chambers with above-ground memorial chapels and adorned with richly detailed Christian wall paintings. This offers an archaeological perspective on the region’s cultural history.

The Zsolnay Cultural Quarter in Pécs features the exhibitions “Golden Age of Zsolnay” and “Pink Exhibition,” as well as an exhibition on the family and factory history. For children, the quarter offers outdoor playgrounds, an interactive lab, a planetarium, the Bóbita Puppet Theatre, a ceramic painting workshop and classes at the Hercules Workshop. The freely accessible outdoor area can be entered and used free of charge during opening hours. Check current opening hours before your visit.

Nature and Landscape in Baranya

The Ős-Dráva Visitor Centre near Szaporca combines an interactive exhibition with a demonstration farming area where practical farming methods are shown, and three themed educational trails. These provide information about traditional agriculture, the Ős-Dráva Programme and the wildlife along the Drava. The farming area features native Hungarian domestic animals, including Hungarian Grey cattle, Mangalica pigs, Hucul horses, and old breeds of sheep and poultry.

The Wilderness Nature Trail along the Old Drava has a birdwatching and bird-ringing station, a lookout point, a photography hide, a covered activity area and several rest areas. As well as wildlife, this nature theme offers opportunities for observation and spending time outdoors.

Architecture, Art and Culinary Delights

Siklós Castle is one of Hungary’s best-preserved military complexes and one of the country’s most significant Renaissance buildings. The modernisation of the museum wing opened the previously inaccessible Gothic section to visitors. At the Nagyharsány Sculpture Park, the “Art in Nature” programme includes a guided tour of the park. The two attractions offer different cultural highlights: Renaissance architecture in one, and art in a sculpture park in the other.

In Villány, you can go from cellar to cellar along the row of wine cellars throughout the year and sample wines and delicious food. This culinary focus differs distinctly from the archaeological, architectural and nature-related themes found in other places across the wider Baranya destination.
