Bócsa can be viewed through two distinct points of reference: an ethnographic collection and a historic sporting event. Other cultural and nature topics belong to the broader destination of Bács-Kiskun; they can be found in the places mentioned in each case.
Bócsa: collection and historic event
The Tájház in Bócsa is owned by the municipality and serves as an ethnographic collection. Its function is therefore cultural in nature. The Őszi Boróka Kupa offers a different perspective on the place: the two-day orienteering event took place in Bócsa on November 11, 2018. The collection and the dated competition represent different topics—ethnographic culture on the one hand, and a specific sporting event on the other.
Cultural and historical sites in Bács-Kiskun
In the broader destination of Bács-Kiskun, the Tiszaalpár, Földvár nature trail presents the history of the Bronze Age fortification of Tiszaalpári Földvár and the way of life of people in the Bronze Age. The archaeological site is specially protected in Bács-Kiskun; its designation was made under Regulation 3/2003. (I. 25.) NKÖM. In Tiszaalpár, a reconstruction of a village from the Árpád era, built for the millennium, also depicts the settlement layout discovered during local excavations. The nature trail, archaeological site and reconstruction offer different ways to explore the past: through historical interpretation, the protected status of a find site, and the depiction of a settlement layout.
Another cultural topic can be found at the Kiskunhalasi Csipkeház and Csipkemúzeum. There, visitors can learn about the history of Halas lace, which began in 1902, admire lacework dating back centuries, and watch the lace-embroidering process. In Kecskemét, Cifrapalota currently serves as an exhibition venue for the Kecskeméti Katona József Museum. Each of these examples highlights something different: crafts and textile work in Kiskunhalas, a museum venue in Kecskemét, and Bronze Age history in Tiszaalpár.
Nature trails and landscapes in Bács-Kiskun
The Boróka nature trail in Bugac is 1,100 metres long. Information boards and activity stations bring its themes to life, including a forest xylophone and a play telescope. At Lake Szelidi, another nature trail combines natural history with the history of the lake: it is a natural oxbow lake that developed from a branch of the Danube after the Ice Age. The blue-green algae nature trail is accessible on foot and by bicycle throughout the year. Its twelve information stations cover the lake’s development, the properties of its water, the organisms living there and the wildlife in the surrounding area. As local conditions can change, it is a good idea to check them before visiting.
Visitor information is another distinct topic in Bács-Kiskun. The Természet Háza in Kecskemét is the visitor centre of Kiskunság National Park. It provides information about the park’s nature trails, visiting conditions for protected areas, ecotourism programmes and forest schools. The route between the Puszta Kapuja information centre and the Pásztormúzeum also provides a specific point of reference: a field track leads to the museum on foot, over a distance of about 1.5 kilometres. The approximate distance and the track surface are both useful for finding your way.
