A two-room house with a veranda and seasonal natural features give Felsőlajos two distinct starting points for a trip: the Folk House illustrates smallholder building traditions, while trees and their seasonal changes are a defining feature of Magán Zoo. In spring, the acacias bloom, filling the entire park with their intense fragrance; in autumn, the old hawthorn grove is especially striking. This lets you choose between two specific natural highlights when deciding when to travel, while also taking into account your own interest in architectural and everyday history.

The Folk House: Domestic Culture in the Town Centre

The Folk House is in the centre of Felsőlajos, at Iskola utca 11. It is a two-room residential house with a veranda, built around 1920–1930. The house preserves features of the smallholder building traditions of the surrounding region; old household objects are also on display. Together, the building’s design and the objects offer insight into different aspects of rural everyday life: the veranda and layout shape the architectural impression, while the old objects add a glimpse into how the house was used.

The Folk House opened to visitors on 17 August 2002. The interior can be visited free of charge, either by prior arrangement or during the opening hours of the library, information and community centre, with arrangements made on site. Confirm the current details locally before planning your visit. When planning, it is important to distinguish between the two options: arranging a visit in advance or arranging one on site during the community centre’s opening hours.

Acacias and Hawthorn at Magán Zoo

The woodland at Magán Zoo consists mainly of acacias; poplars, birches and other tree species also grow there. When the acacias bloom in spring, their intense floral fragrance fills the entire park. The grounds are also home to an old hawthorn grove, which is especially striking in autumn. The two seasons therefore offer different highlights: acacia blossom and fragrance take centre stage in spring, while the old hawthorn is the focus in autumn. If you are choosing between these natural features, your decision depends on the season you prefer, not on any general ranking of the two experiences.

More Places to Explore in Bács-Kiskun County

Felsőlajos lies on the northern border of Bács-Kiskun County, in the Kiskunság Sand Ridge region. Bács-Kiskun also offers distinct cultural attractions in other places. In Tiszaalpár, the Tiszaalpár, Földvár nature trail presents the history of the Bronze Age fortification of Tiszaalpári Földvár and the way of life of people in the Bronze Age. Tiszaalpári Földvár is a specially protected archaeological site. Separate from this is the reconstruction of an Árpád-era village built in Tiszaalpár to mark the millennium: it represents the settlement layout discovered during local excavations. These sites therefore offer two clearly distinct historical perspectives for comparison: the Bronze Age and the Árpád era.

Another nature attraction in Bács-Kiskun is the Boróka nature trail in Bugac. It is 1,100 metres long and features information boards and interactive stations, including a forest xylophone and a play telescope. This offers a different focus from the seasonal trees and fragrances of Magán Zoo: here, the emphasis is on information and interactive stations along a nature trail; there, on acacia blossom and the hawthorn grove. These regional examples add to the picture of Felsőlajos without replacing the town’s own attractions.
