In Harta, you can explore cultural history, cycling along the Danube, protected nature and summer events as distinct themes. A farmhouse has served as an exhibition venue since 1967; EuroVelo 6 runs along the Danube, while the floodplain forests are protected. When planning your visit, the specific visiting conditions are just as important as deciding whether to focus on culture, nature or an event date.

Museums, collections and art

The Nationality Tájház is housed in a typical farmhouse of the Great Hungarian Plain. The building has served as an exhibition venue since 1967, combining museum use with a farmhouse type characteristic of the region. The Tájház is open year-round; check the visiting conditions before you travel.

The Helytörténeti Gyűjtemény can be visited by prior arrangement. Arrange your visit in advance. The collection displays painted furniture and a traditional costume considered unique even in the European German-speaking world. It therefore offers a distinct focus on domestic culture and clothing. In the same building, the Felvidéki Szoba and the Gallé Tibor Képtár exhibit works by Gallé Tibor, including depictions of village life in the early 20th century and of Harta’s residents.

Churches and architectural history

The Reformed Church is Neoclassical, was built in 1836 and is a protected monument. The Evangelical Church is also protected. Its style combines Late Baroque and Neoclassical features. Its construction is probably dated to 1792 and involved the use of an earlier building; a broader construction period of 1791 to 1798 is also given. The two churches thus offer different points of interest for a cultural and historical visit: the construction date and Neoclassical architecture of the Reformed Church, and the Late Baroque influence and cautiously dated construction history of the Evangelical Church.

The Danube, cycling and nature

The EuroVelo 6 cycle route runs along the Danube in Harta. The floodplain forests near Harta are protected, and the great bustard is a rare bird species here. The Széki lile tanösvény is nearby. This brings together several ways to enjoy nature: a riverside cycling route, protected floodplain forests, a rare bird species and a nearby nature trail. Check the current condition of the trail before visiting.

Local specialties and summer events

Hartai kolbász is considered a culinary specialty of Harta. The Hartai Kolbásztöltő Fesztivál was held for the tenth time in 2026. The municipality also holds the Őrült Hajók Versenye on the Danube each summer. If you would like to plan your trip around this summer event, check the dates and programme. The culinary tradition and the events calendar can each be considered a reason to choose when to visit, without conflating the two.

More places to discover in Bács-Kiskun

Beyond Harta, the wider destination of Bács-Kiskun offers other distinct themes. In Tiszaalpár, the Tiszaalpár, Földvár nature trail explores the history of a Bronze Age fortified settlement and the way of life of people in the Bronze Age. A reconstruction built for the millennium depicts the settlement layout discovered during local excavations. In Kiskunhalas, visitors can learn about the history of Halas lace at the Kiskunhalasi Csipkeház és Csipkemúzeum, view lacework dating back centuries and watch the lace-making process; its history began in 1902.

Bács-Kiskun also has distinctive nature attractions. The Boróka nature trail in Bugac is 1,100 metres long and features information boards and interactive stops such as a forest xylophone and a play telescope. Lake Szelidi is a natural oxbow lake that developed from a branch of the Danube after the Ice Age. The blue algae nature trail at Lake Szelidi is accessible year-round on foot and by bicycle; its twelve stops cover the lake’s development, the properties of its water, the organisms living there and the wildlife of the surrounding area.
