Cultural and historical themes in Amalias include the city’s history and traditions, a permanent biographical exhibition, historic buildings and a cultural and historical route. If you want to get to know a place through more than individual sights, the collection on folk and everyday culture, the life story of Nikos Beloyiannis and the history of its buildings offer different perspectives.

City History and Personal Stories

The Municipal Folklore Museum is housed in a building in Beloyiannis Park in the center of Amalias. It presents the city’s history and traditions through photographs, relevant literature, documents and explanatory texts. In this way, images, written records and explanatory texts make the city’s history accessible.

On display are works of local folk art, clothing, household items, agricultural tools and locally made objects. The exhibits bring together different aspects of local heritage: folk art, domestic life, agriculture and local production. The folklore materials come from donations by residents of the surrounding area; the collection therefore also includes contributions from beyond the city.

The permanent exhibition about Nikos Beloyiannis offers a different perspective. It features rare documents, personal belongings, original photographs and historical records. It covers his life from his youth in Ilia through his resistance activities to his trial and execution in 1952. Unlike the Folklore Museum, which focuses on city traditions and a variety of objects, this exhibition brings the story together in the biography of a single person.

Architectural History and Cultural-Historical Route

The city’s architectural history also highlights distinct periods. Tatani House was built as a residence in the early 20th century. The history of the Church of Agios Athanasios in Amalias began in the second half of the 19th century; it was completed in 1867. The two buildings thus differ both in period and in their original use. Alongside collection objects and documents, the house and church also stand out as themes in the city’s history.

Amalias also has a cultural and historical route that takes in the city’s sights. It therefore offers a different scale from an exhibition about a collection or a single biography: the city’s sights are the overarching focus.

Local Products and Food

A culinary perspective was offered by the first Ilida Agro & Food Fest – Made Olympian Land. It took place from September 19 to 21, 2025, in Beloyiannis Park. Visitors could discover and sample local products, take part in tastings and cooking workshops, and get information about innovation, exports and gastronomic tourism. The program combined hands-on tasting and cooking with broader topics related to products and their marketing. While the museum exhibitions focus on heritage and biography, the festival centered on local produce, tastings and cooking workshops.
