Elati lies on the slopes of Koziakas, whose landscape is characterized by fir trees. Trail 150 passes between the rocks of Thyra and heads toward the high peaks; Trail 140 leads to Kosta. Kokkinos Vrachos is a distinctive rock with views of Elati and several mountain ranges, while the Pertouli Ski Resort offers activities outside the village. For planning, it is worth distinguishing between these places: the trails and rocks are in or above Elati, while the ski resort is between Elati and Pertouli.
Trails on Koziakas
Trail 150 starts above Elati, passes between the rocks of Thyra and offers a short ascent toward the high Koziakas peaks above the village. Trail 140 starts in the center and leads to Kosta. It is 2.8 kilometers long and rated easy. The two trails therefore differ in character: one leads to a named destination and has a stated length and difficulty rating, while the other passes between the rocks and makes a short ascent toward the peaks. Check trail conditions before setting out, as they can change.
Kokkinos Vrachos: views and climbing
Kokkinos Vrachos is a 60-meter-high rock at an elevation of 1,050 meters. The two figures describe different measurements: 60 meters is the height of the rock, and 1,050 meters is its elevation. From the summit, you can see Elati as well as the Pindos and Agrafa mountain ranges. A developed climbing area with seven routes of varying difficulty is located on its steep face. This means the same rock offers views of several mountain ranges as well as a climbing area with routes of varying difficulty. Check local conditions before climbing.
More activities near Pertouli
The Pertouli Ski Center is nine kilometers from Elati; Elati can serve as a base for skiers. The Pertouli Ski Resort is between Elati and Pertouli and has three slopes and three lifts: a 1,500-meter red slope, a 400-meter blue slope and an 80-meter green practice slope. The red slope is the longest of the three, the green practice slope is the shortest, and the blue slope is in between. These lengths give you a concrete comparison of the slopes, but do not indicate current operating hours. Check current operating conditions before your trip.
The resort also offers skiing and snowboarding, as well as horseback riding, snowmobiling, hiking and archery. Check the availability of these activities before your trip. This lets you plan your stay around the activities available in nearby Pertouli, while the trails and climbing rock offer additional options in and above Elati.
Chapels, local history and regional details
At the entrance to Elati is the Prophet Elias grove, with a stone chapel of the same name. Above the village, the Agia Triada chapel is in dense forest at an elevation of 1,025 meters. The two locations are clearly distinct: the grove is at the entrance to Elati, while Agia Triada is above the village in the forest.
Elati was formerly known as Tyrna. Near Paleokastro, the remains of the ancient castle extend from the plateau below the Prophet Elias chapel to the village of Katofli. The Likno shop in Elati sells traditional products and regional herbs; its selection may change.
The E4 long-distance trail also passes through the municipality of Pyli, leading from Kalambaka toward the Koziakas refuge and Elati.
