Potistika combines days at the beach with a circular route that starts and ends at the beach. This means your trip planning can focus on two different things: time swimming and relaxing by the sea, or a route towards Xinovrysi with a historical detour. Nearby Melani Beach also adds a different character to a stay on the coast. You can decide whether you want the beach itself to be the main focus or whether to include a tour with a destination of its own in your plans.

Time at Potistika Beach

Potistika Beach has organized areas with parasols and sun loungers, as well as plenty of open space. If you specifically want to use a parasol or sun lounger, check the seasonal arrangements on site before your visit. Swimming and relaxing on fine sand are among the activities available. Large rocks lie in the sea, and visitors can climb onto them and jump into the water. You can also explore the seabed around the rocks. The beach therefore offers different ways to spend time by the water: on the sand, swimming, or around the rocks.

Potistika and Nearby Melani Beach

Nearby Melani Beach offers a different experience: it has coarse sand and clear Aegean water, while Potistika has fine sand and rocks in the sea. A short, somewhat difficult-to-walk path over the rocks separates the two beaches. If you include both in your trip plans, take the nature of this crossing into account. The comparison is therefore about not only the character of each beach, but also the route between them.

Potistika–Xinovrysi Circular Route

The Potistika–Xinovrysi circular route is 9.64 km long, is considered easy, and starts and ends at Potistika Beach. The beach is therefore both the starting point and the return point for the tour. The two walking options have different difficulty ratings: the circular route is considered easy, while the short path between Potistika and Melani is somewhat difficult to walk. Route information may change; check the details before your tour.

Detour to Bourboulithra

The circular route includes a half-hour detour, there and back, to Bourboulithra, a site beside the ever-flowing Megalo Rema between Siki and Xinovrysi. There, German soldiers shot 14 patriots in 1944. A memorial stands at the site. The detour adds a specific historical location in the wider region to the landscape and beach themes. When deciding whether to take the route, you can therefore consider the historical significance of the detour as well as the route’s length and difficulty rating.
