Kali Komi lies at an altitude of 610 metres. The landscape includes the Kostiano Gorge, named slopes and peaks, forests and viewpoints; in the village, a church and chapels add sacred heritage to the natural attractions. You can therefore plan your trip around the mountain scenery, the architecture or a combination of both interests.

Gorge, Peaks and Views

Visitors can walk through the Kostiano Gorge; it ends at the Achelous. From Kali Komi, you can also climb the slopes and peaks of Botsi, Kafkia, Stavro and Kalatori, where wide-ranging views await. The activities have different focuses: the gorge is about walking through it, with the Achelous as the endpoint, while the highlands offer climbs and expansive views. This distinction can help you choose which natural attractions to visit.

Special Viewpoints

Boutsos is the highest peak of Mount Botsi. From there, views extend towards the regional units of Trikala, Karditsa, Arta and Ioannina. Samari is another viewpoint with a distinctive view in the Kali Komi area. Boutsos can be identified by its position as a peak and the directions in which it offers views; Samari adds another viewpoint to the area.

Forests, Springs and Buildings

The Kalatori-Megas Kampos and Mavrorachi-Kaftoures forests lie around Kali Komi, where firs and beeches grow. The church and chapels are in the village itself, while the forest areas are in the surrounding countryside. This distinction in location can help you plan visits to the village and the landscape separately. Visitors can drink water from the Toska, Itia, Pouria, Lavros and Leptokaroula springs. Check locally whether the water is currently safe to drink.

The Church of Agios Nikolaos has an iconostasis made of porous limestone. An iconostasis is a partition adorned with icons that separates the sanctuary from the main body of a church; at Agios Nikolaos, it is made of the porous limestone mentioned above. The chapels of Panagia, Agios Konstantinos and Agios Dimitrios are also in the village. For travellers interested in sacred architecture, the church and chapels offer a specific point of interest alongside the natural attractions.

Getting There

Kali Komi is 65 kilometres from Mouzaki. A road connects the village with Arta. Kali Komi is also accessible from Pyli Trikalon; part of the road is unpaved. Check road conditions locally before setting out, especially if you plan to use this route. The distance to Mouzaki and the information about the road from Pyli relate to different planning considerations: the first puts the village in context geographically, while the other concerns the surface of a section of road.
