Nyfida is defined by two distinct features: the seasonal wetland and the sandy beach. The wetland forms as a result of winter rainfall and dries out completely from early summer; both the shoreline and the seabed at the beach are sandy. For trip planning, these answer two different questions: When does the landscape change, and what is the beach like? The immediate surroundings also include cultivated land, low vegetation and scattered buildings.

The Wetland Throughout the Year

The Nyfida wetland lies on the western edge of the settlement, slightly inland from the coastal road. It forms as a result of winter rainfall and dries out completely from early summer. For a stay from early summer onward, this is a clear contrast with the period of winter rainfall: the wetland is then completely dry. When choosing your travel dates, you can take this seasonal change into account as a defining part of the landscape.

Flamingos, garganeys, coots, little grebes and white wagtails are currently found in the wetland. Other species feed in wetlands like these or roost there during the winter. This gives nature enthusiasts an indication of the bird species currently found here, as well as how other species use such habitats in winter. A particular sighting during any one visit is not guaranteed.

Beach and Coastal Surroundings

Nyfida beach is near the settlement of Polichnitos. Sand characterizes both the shoreline and the seabed there. This describes the surface of the shore as well as the bottom beneath the water. If you are particularly looking for a sandy beach when choosing a destination, this is a specific feature that sets it apart from the seasonally changing wetland.

The beach facilities include showers, changing rooms, sun umbrellas with loungers, as well as waste bins and baskets. Showers and changing rooms are useful for rinsing off and changing; loungers and sun umbrellas add to the facilities on the beach. If you depend on a particular facility, check its current condition before visiting.

There are fish tavernas, ouzeries and cafés along the coastal road by the beach. If you plan to stop for a meal or a drink, check opening hours in advance. Nearby, 150 metres east of the coast, there is a fishing harbour where small private boats moor.

The Immediate Surroundings

The immediate surroundings are characterized by cultivated land, low vegetation and scattered buildings in the settlement of Nyfida. Land use may change over time. These landscape features complement the picture of the beach and wetland with the setting of the settlement: in understanding Nifida, the cultivated areas and dispersed buildings matter alongside the coast.

These features answer different questions for trip planning: the wetland adds a seasonal dimension, while the beach offers its sandy character and the facilities mentioned above. The birds and places to eat along the coastal road offer further perspectives. This can help you weigh up which of these features matters most for your stay.
