Ypsos can be understood through two specific features: a bus route through Ipsos and the nearby village of Agios Markos. Historic buildings lie in the hills above Ipsos; elsewhere on Corfu, there are further cultural and hiking destinations.

Bus Route and Nearby Village

Bus route 7 runs along the Dasia–Ipsos route, passing through Ipsos and ending in Ipsos–Pyrgi. If you include this route in your day’s plans, check the current timetable before setting out. The route information specifies both the course and the endpoint, providing a concrete reference for getting your bearings.

Near Ypsos, Agios Markos lies in the hills above Ipsos. Old churches and ivy-covered mansions define the village. Along with helping you get your bearings, they give the surrounding area a historic, village character. If you are interested in architecture, you can take these features into account alongside the bus route when planning your trip.

Corfu: Old Town and Museums

The historic urban fabric of Corfu’s Old Town has been almost entirely preserved; its buildings date from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The Old Town and its two fortresses are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Corfu therefore offers a distinct focus on urban history, clearly different from the village features near Ypsos.

The Museum of Asian Art in Corfu’s Old Town houses more than 11,000 objects from China, Japan, India, the Himalayas and Central Asia. The Archaeological Museum of Corfu offers a different collection focus: it displays the Gorgon Medusa pediment from the great Temple of Artemis. It was created in 585 BC and excavated in 1911 near the Monastery of Aghioi Theodoroi. Corfu thus brings together a diverse collection of Asian objects and a significant ancient temple relief as distinct cultural subjects.

The Museum of Asian Art can be reached from Corfu port on bus route 2, along the Mantouki–Kanoni route. Check the timetable before setting out if you plan to use this connection. This route information refers to the journey from the port to the museum and should be considered separately from bus route 7 in the Ipsos area.

More Cultural and Landscape Highlights on Corfu

In Corfu’s historic Old Town, Casa Parlante recreates the daily life of the island’s nobility in the 19th century with moving figures and reconstructed furnishings and interiors. The Kapodistrias Museum has a different focus: its permanent exhibition explores the history of Corfu, Europe and Greece through the life of Greece’s first governor, using artifacts and documents. The museum is set beside a lush garden on a hill, with views of Corfu’s landscape and across the island.

Corfu offers hiking options on different scales, too. In the municipal unit of Achilleion, ancient paths wind through the wooded mountains of Agii Deka, Stavros and Garouna and are suitable for hiking. The 180-kilometer Corfu Trail is different: it passes through several settlements and uses Benitses as one of its 13 overnight stops. The information describes both trails in a named mountain area and a long route with several overnight stops.

When choosing accommodation, you can first consider its proximity to Ypsos and the surrounding area, then think about which cultural or landscape highlights on Corfu you would like to add to your stay. Information about Agios Markos and route 7 helps you get your bearings locally; the Old Town, museums and hiking trails offer further things to explore across the island. If you plan to use any of the bus connections mentioned, check the timetable for that route.
