On Othoni, you can plan your trip around swimming, coastal paths and a distinctive lighthouse. The coves and beaches vary in character and in the activities they offer; the paths provide specific points of reference to help with planning. Getting there is also part of the decision: the island can only be reached by boat from Corfu. Take weather-dependent journey times into account when planning your trip and looking for a hotel.

Coves and Swimming

Xylosermoi on Othonoi is a quiet cove with clear water. At the small, picturesque Fiki beach, you can take short swimming trips and explore the surrounding area. At Aspri Ammos, you can swim and snorkel with a mask. This makes it possible to choose between the places based on the activity you want: Fiki combines short swimming trips with exploring, while Aspri Ammos is noted for swimming and snorkelling.

Kanoula also has its own character: the beach below the Othonoi lighthouse is a wild cove with rocks, pebbles and natural clay. Together with the quiet cove of Xylosermoi and the activities available at Fiki and Aspri Ammos, it offers a selection of different coastal spots, though they do not all have the same swimming conditions.

Lighthouse and Coastal Paths

The Othonoi lighthouse stands on Cape Kastri at the eastern end of the island. It is situated on a ten-metre-high stone tower. Below the lighthouse lies Kanoula Cove, with its rocky, pebbly shore and natural clay.

The Fokies coastal path runs along Othoni. A hiking trail connects Kastri with Kanoula Beach and can be started in Ammos or Kastri. This means the trip can include both a route with a named beach as its destination and two possible starting points. Check the trail conditions before setting out, as they can vary.

A moderately difficult coastal path, about one kilometre long, runs near the old quarry. Along the way, you pass Kamares, a natural rock arch formed by the waves, as well as spots with access to swimming. The approximate length and stated difficulty help you assess this path as a separate part of your hiking plans. It combines coastal scenery with opportunities to stop for a swim; trail conditions can change.

Getting There and Finding Accommodation

Othoni can only be reached by boat from Corfu. The journey takes about four hours from Corfu Town or around an hour and a half from Agios Stefanos; both journey times are weather-dependent. Check the connection before travelling and factor the departure port into your schedule. Since journey times differ considerably depending on the departure point, it makes sense to decide early.

Culture in the Wider Destination of Corfu

Corfu offers its own city and cultural attractions in addition to an island stay. Corfu Old Town’s historic urban fabric is almost completely preserved; its buildings date from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The Old Town and its two fortresses are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Museum of Asian Art in the Old Town houses more than 11,000 objects from China, Japan, India, the Himalayas and Central Asia. From Corfu Port, the museum can be reached on bus route 2, along the Mantouki–Kanoni route; check the timetable before travelling. The Old Town also has a digital guide offering residents and visitors audiovisual information about more than 80 sights within the city. Check whether the guide is available before your trip.
